New AIW HD, I should say few months old

If you are using XP then its ok. Vista no. Last time I used the AIW series was with the 7200GT All-In-Wonder 128bit 32MB DDR. (220Mhz Core/440Mhz DDR Mem)

it's too expensive for my tastes. You can buy a HD4000 series card with a decent dual-ATSC/QAM VMC supported tuner for less. Hell, if I were considering a 3650 AIW I might buy a HDHomerun and see what deal I can get on a gfx card with the left overs.

That's outdated information. The new AIW from ATI (AMD) has no noteworthy issuse with respect to Windows Vista specificity, unlike the older AIW line that was never properly supported in Vista. Having said that, I dont necessarily suggest that the new AIW card is a worthwhile venture and I couldn't see buying one for personal use.

Do take note that "Windows 7" is already in the wild in beta form. With ATI's (AMD's) track record there is no reason to believe that they would bother to support this product properly in a new OS. Either way I wouldn't be surprised.

Also note that ATI (AMD) has sold off their "TV" division so lord knows what that means for a product like this.

Windows 7 uses the same driver model so that Vista drivers should work fine.

I think most people would come to that conclusion, however, I would caution that just because such a thing should work doesn't necessarily mean that it will.

I'll point out what I have pointed out before a number of different times. The AIW line (with T200 chip) is the only line of tuners that I know of that had "Media Center 2k5" support but never gained "Vista Media Center" support. Thats a dubious distinction. Technically its a very different situation then that of Win7 but it does nothing to promote trust in the AIW product line. No explanation was ever given for this either which again does nothing to promote trust in the AIW product line. And finally AMD selling their digital TV division doesn't help promote confidence in future support or quality of support of their existing DTV products or future DTV products (if there are any).

This isn't exactly the PC DTV division but it doesn't look good either way.

For what its worth, the few new AIW user threads I have seen at thegreenbutton have not been favorable overall in Vista to begin with.

***edit***

Having said that, buy.com has the "Diamond All-in-Wonder Premium HDTV TV Tuner - AIWHD3650PM" for ~$144.49 USD A/R

So have at it if you want it ;)

so would either card be an improvement over the 1800XL AIW I have now ? only thing i might play in the future is Starcraft 2, still use XP-32 on my old machine.

this chart doesnt show much of an improvement
