diesel suggested to me that we divide the radeon forum up into 3 parts:

Hardware Support
Software Support
General Discussion

that sounds like a very good idea to me, and this forum will become general

what do you guys think of this idea? do you have any suggestions on what we should divide the topics into? Voice your opinions!!

Thanks :)

I don't think its a good idea. It justs makes it harder to deal with.

Infringement is a b*tch ain't it?

With the amount of posts in this forum increasing every day, its not a bad idea. The poor folks with real problems keep getting pushed way back in the threads.

roki,

I agree that dividing the forum up can be a big help.

I've also noticed that all it takes is a day or two for a person's post to be buried back into the pages.

I agree on the three parts. It's also possible to combine hardware/software support together.

Finally, if you want to have a "fun" area where people can vent a bit and post those controversial topics (plus....you can move them there if they start in another forum and start to become a little heated).....you may have one more division:

Something like

The War Room
or
The Boxing Ring

May as well make the Hardware Support and Software Support into one forum "Technical Support" since there would probably be a lot of double posting in both forums if they were seperated into two. Then what happens is that a message may have been responded to in one but not the other, and the originator misses the reply.

Here is my other idea...why do most people purchase a high-end video card like the Radeon in the first place? It's not to run word processors or spreadsheets - even a Ragepro can do that - it's to play games! And there are quite a lot of game-related questions in the Radeon forum as it is now, so my vote is for a seperate Game Support forum so people wouldn't have to wade through all the tech support posts just to find the best settings for Unreal Tournament.

>>General Discussion
>>Technical Support
>>Games Support

I think all three would see alot of traffic, my 2 cents...

I like it, it makes sense to me, maybe make a 4th forum relating to other hardware and Radeon (e.g. DVD's, motherboards, etc.)

------------------
T-bird 700
A7V
300 watt PS
DVD 105S
Radeon 64 VIVO OEM
SB Live! Value
17" Samsung 753DF
15 gig IBM GXP
Zip 250 USB
Razer Boomslang 1000
Floppy
Aopen NIC
128 megs PC-133 RAM

Radeon Technical Support (all problems go here)
Radeon Software Discussion (for gaming and other 3D programs)
General Radeon Discussion (all the other stuff)

and I think we should also add a Radeon Tweaker forum

I agree with the 3 sections. Now, i came from Savage Daily News forum (Had a S4) and Steele (from SDN) managed to get direct support from S3 into a protected forum called 'Ask S3', where driver developers, marketing seniors among other people from S3 will give their support.
I read a post about a guy named Brian giving phone and mail support from ATI, the idea would be talking to Brian and convince him to enter in a protected forum 'Ask ATI' to discuss in public the problems we have and address those problems to the driver development team right away.
Anyway, my two cents. :)

Cheers,

HA ha! Maia, your idea is good, but I smell the beginings of a lurid entrapment and beating of a poor ATI marketing person who knows nothing about drivers and cards, and will just be ganged up on and torn to shreads. :)

Although the Idea is fundamentally good, it will probably not be with "Brian". I'm sure ATI people regularilly haunt this forum, so concentrating decent quiries to a specific folder is sensible.

Split the forums == good

I don't like that idea. Only because if I have a question about a tweak/game/problem, I have to look/post in three different places. I just don't think this board has enough traffic to justify dividing it into three.

Just my $0.02. You did ask.

Maybe, though, a driver-related forum, where Brian or someone on the development team can come in and answer questions/give updates would be good.

I also thing we've reached the time we need to split the forum up. I tend to agree with Diesel on the split and names. Lets just make the naming convention clear enough so that Driver/system issues end in one forum. Game/application issues in another, and other discussion related threads in a more general forum.

The guys that replied on SDN forum, Warner Young and Jeff from S3 where not related to the driver team(they're from marketing division), they collected data, such as drivers issues from our posts and they filtered that data to the driver team, providing them raw material to be addressed on the next driver release. Well, there were anonimous posts from an openGl driver team guy. At the end we got a fast input, i mean, it hasn't to be someone from the driver team, just a person or two that can watch our posts here and know what we need to be addressed in the first place. This could only be beneficial for both sides ATI+ATI End User.

Cheers,
MAIA

I like Slaykill's format. I can see all the posts I've just read falling into those topics easily.

One for:
>>General Discussion
>>Technical Support
>>Games Support

Yeah I like his idea too...er...wait a minute. I forgot to post anon!! Heh heh.

Really though BigBear, this board sees alot more traffic than most boards that are split into more than just three forums. Three seems to be about right for the traffic level here, which seems to be growing at a fairly steady rate. Any more than three might water things down a bit much, and it's possible that everyone will stick to the main board at first anyway. It seems to be worth a shot to try it out.
