Need some help hooking up speakers

I have some old Altec Lansing PC speakers (two speakers and a sub) laying around that I'd like to attempt and hook up to my plasma before I put them on craigslist.

Problem is, I'm not sure how. This is what I'm dealing with:

Any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken the only audio out your TV has is optical. Meaning somehow you have to take that and feed it into the S/PDIF in on your speakers.

Is there a converter for this that can be purchased? I see no other way of getting the two to communicate, as your TV doesn't appear to have any analog out.

EDIT: How much for the speakers? I know you mentioned Craigslist, but I happen to have a need for a 2.1 set... :p

Optical to copper spdif adapters used to exist. I also see nothing for the sub, unless that's the first picture.

EDIT: Because- swing is a ninja.

And yesh, it looks like that cable is the general idea of what you'd need. However, is that end a 3.5mm? Cause it kinda' looks more like a 3.5mm connector than a coaxial which is what you'd need for the S/PDIF.

I'm not sure a mere cable will be enough. Optical is essentially light. Like fiber optics. Coaxial is a traditional signal over copper wire. Kinda' hard to splice the two. :p

Quick search found this on amazon:

That seems more logical. You need something that can covert the optical signal (essentially light) into an electronic signal over the copper wires for the S/PDIF in on the speakers. That little gadget looks to be what you'd need.

Read up on it a bit more, then maybe see if anybody local has one. Or place the order from Amazon.

I understand how optical/coax works - I figured everyone ran into this problem with PC speakers on a TV. I'm not going to mess with that convertor because of the external power requirement.

Couldn't I just use this and run them through the RCA jacks?

The problem there is that all the RCA jacks in that tv are inputs, not outputs.

Are you just testing them before sale? Because if you are, a 3.5mm cable to your phone will do just as good.

I honestly see no way to use those on your TV without an adapter. Maybe somebody else here will know of something though. :)

We have an extra TV and I was going use these if I could. I know they work because they were on an old Dell that just gave up the ghost.

I do not see any analog out.

I'll see if I can get some beer money for them.
