Microsoft Acquiring Activision/Blizzard

The Bethesda/Zenimax acquisition. They were looking for a buyer and Microsoft was the best for them and the gaming community overall. Anyone else with pockets that deep would have been a disaster.

Also, these game publisher/developer acquisitions fall under the auspices of the gaming division, led by people who know what the hell they're doing and do have the consumer's interests in mind. This isn't the Microsoft of old either. Even the CEO of the entire corporation (Nadella) is all in on gaming.

I'm still dubious at best. M$ has been "all in for gaming" before and they dropped the ball completely.

Don Mattrick. Especially under Steve Ballmer. They wanted to milk xbox for profitability, and simply lacked a love or understanding of the medium.

so we are going to have to pay or have game pass for Diablo 3 seasons now :bleh:

and Diablo 4 seasons when and if it gets there

i don't think MS will put all the work into a 10 year old game that Blizzard did for free

Be curious to see how quickly they rejig these games for game pass. Aren't they doing a new client for windows to get rid of the dumb UWP? Should make the process easier. I wonder what this means for battle.net though.

It could be they will ingrate Battle.net features or it could be like SubCog said.

I think people overestimate the value of some game companies. Just because MS hasn't done hostile takeovers does not mean they cannot.

The bigger question isn't who will MS buy next it is who Sony will buy next. Given the current Square Enix relationship and the pedigree behind them as well as both being Japanese companies it is a DISTINCT possibility

Sony probably do need to buy a studio or two. I think Square Enix would be a good candidate with their franchises.

Sony doesn't need to, they keep throwing money at forever exclusives.

except they just lost some big exclusives they had for the younger market with the lose of activision. Right now their 3rd party exclusive partner is what square enix? and only for CERTAIN games and even then can be very hit or miss on what they deliver.

(I am massive FF fan and even I can admit they have had some misses)

I could very easily see Sony buying square enix to be the defacto home for JRPGs and bonus get tomb raider and deus ex franchises.

But they learned their lesson. Look at MS as a whole the last decade. Open source embrace etc... they are different anima todayl. Learned hard lessons.. and LEARNED from it.

MS kicking ass is welcomed!

Also helps that the current CEO doesn't give a sheit where potential customers are, he just wants to reach em. Like the exact opposite to Apples walled garden approach.

They'd have to even be interested in being acquired first and foremost.

Secondly, Sony already has a really cush relationship with them. They don't have to acquire them to keep that going and still get exclusives.

It's clear M$ is attempting to take over a large portion of the gaming market. That will never be a pro-consumer move. For one thing, its terrible for privacy rights regarding M$ ability to gather and sell more peoples biometric data.

Edit: Maybe they should talk with CD PROJEKT RED?

huh?

I think your mobile phone (Apple/Google) + FB will have WAY more data on you then MS will ever have.
