I just got my AIW 8500 128meg today and found that the ATI's MP3 player sounds like crap on some of my mp3's. Worst mp3 decoder in the world I think. What I would like is to use winamp with this remote to stop/play/next bla, bla, ect, ect..

If you find any plugin that oddly works with this thing please say so hehe.

thanks for the link, I was really needin this as well :) but do you know of any workaround to make this plugin work in the background like windows media player does? I mean I can set a playlist with media player and then minimize and use outher programs like warcraft III and half life while keeping complete controll over the music settings. When I use winamp I have to keep the window selected to use the remote, kinda a bumer meaning I can't do the multi task thing. any ideas are welcome :)

without having the main winamp window selected i don't think the plugin knows what to do with the remote's command.
What you want there would be something that comes directly from the remote and goes to winamp, the remote would get the window ID of winamp and send the command.
i don't know if anything like that will ever come along. we'd need the remote to search for winamp and then send the command, the plugin would handle the conversion of the input command so winamp would be able to understand it, but the remote software has to find winamp first.

Windows defines a class of Multimediia messages, commonly referred to a "WM_APP" commands. These were developed to standardize the extended keyboards that have been showing up for years now.

WM_APP commands include Play, Pause, Stop, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, Skip Up, and Skip Down. A future MS OS release will likely expand on this set of commands.

Many application (Media Player, most/all DVD players, others) respond to WM_APP commands, and the ATI Remote transmits them whenever the Multimedia Center is NOT in focus. This allows the in focus aplication to respond to the WM_APP commands that the ATI remote is sending.

This is sort of related.
Can you bind key-combinations to the remote wonder? The reson I ask is because you can bind key combos to windows keys for regular winamp opertaions. If you could bind this to a remote wonder button, you should able to control winamp then?
Anyone tried this?

The current version of the remote control software has a (fairly small) set of pre-defined, generally useful key simulation options. There is no way to bind arbitrary keys (or key sequences) to a programmable key.

Perhaps in some fuiture release?
