Klispch Promedia 2.1 spkr terminal broke

I wanted to title this post "Damnit all to ****ing hell", but this might get better results. I'm also posting this here instead of in "hardware" b/c it seems to fit better here. (Guess I'll find out if it doesn't.)

I got my stuff out of the moving boxes this evening and set my 'puter back up. However, when plugging the speakers in, the spring terminals on the woofer/amp box where you attach the satellite wires broke.

A brief visit to klipsch's site wasn't helpful....so I'm wondering if it's a standard terminal box or some proprietary crap...anyone ever replaced these on this unit?

pics?

got back an email from Klipsch, saying they didn't have them, but that the local radio shack should...so presumably that means it's a standard size terminal cup and I won't be trying out my fiberglassing skills this evening.

I was going to get the 5.1 set of Klispch, but their quality has really dropped from what I've heard.

Subs constantly die on the 5.1 set, my friend just had his 2.1 set die (both speakers AND the sub) for absolutely no reason, he treats everything with TLC.

My Logitech 5.1 sound great and have lasted so far.

That sucks if thats true about quality. I've been looking to upgrade my 4.1 Klipsch that are 9 years old.

Maybe it's a good thing my speakers are Klipsch and not this other Klispch brand. ;)

 Woops!

I dunno, I went with the Logitech Z-5400 and they have been amazing speakers for me. I was going for Klipsch but due to the problems I read.. yeah.

Appears to be true. But you can upgrade the speakers!

Well, I didn't leave work in time to get to radio shack, which is about the only place around here that would even come close to having some. (Welcome to the country, yee-haw)

However, while doing a search for "promedia parts repair" and other similar strings, I discovered I should be REALLY glad I didn't get the 5.1 set, as they apparently have some really bad amp problems.

Funny...I had always heard how great klipsch speakers were, and mine pretty have pretty much confirmed that...although it seems others have had greatly different experiences.

First, sucks that you having issues like this, id be ticked. I've been using the klisp 2.1 for such a long time and i have zero issues with them, they still sound as good as day one. That goes for my bro and some of my friends too... BUT i also have read the horror stories about them. I guess its always easier to find problems than success stories, i dunno. With that being siad one has to do what one feels best. If the parts and the hassle aint that much then id probably at least try to fix them... tho pending on how you are it may just be easier to go out and get a new set of somethings.

Best of luck on whatever you attempt!!

You know that's actually VERY cool that you can upgrade them.

I wish I could do the same for my Logitechs to be honest!

OK, finally got around just a minute ago to pulling off the back cover to remove the terminals....and someone please explain this my technically challenged mind:

Four terminals (pos and neg for right side, left side)....but only THREE wires from coming from the amp/electronics module to the little pcb board attached to the terminal plate/cup. WTF? I guess the obvious answer is that the one wire in the middle wire is common to both sides, I can trace the path on the board...but how the hell does that work?

Replacement details? I have to do the same...

Hey, when you replaced the 4 terminal piece did you just bypass the circuit board? I'm assuming you just ran directly into the new part, red wire being red on one channel, white wire being red on the other channel and green wire being ground/black on both channels.
Any clarification would be great. Thanks!
