Jedi Knight 2 tweak settings, eliminate a few problems.

Ive made a Mini "Jedi Knight 2" Tweak List, which should get you a increase in framerate, eliminate stuttering, make the game MUCH smoother, load faster, and enable high quality sounds =)

open the jk2config file in the BASE folder of the directory, and change/ add this stuff

seta s_khz "44" ............old value was 22( hz sound quality )

seta s_mixPreStep "0.0"..........these 2 cause the stuttering, change
seta s_mixahead "0.2"...........them to this, to remove all stutter!

seta com_soundMegs "32"
seta com_hunkMegs "128".......added these myself via wolf recomended

seta cg_runpitch "0.000"
seta cg_runroll "0.000"
seta cg_bobup "0.000"................change to this, removes bobbing,
seta cg_bobpitch "0.000"............increases framerate, and gives
seta cg_bobroll "0.000".........you a smoother movement and mouselook

seta com_maxfps "100"..........your refresh rate here for Vsync

seta r_lodbias "0"........ below 0, looks wayy better, above 0, looks worse, but framerate goes up some... this is Level of Detail area. ( try from -1.5, to 1.5 ), in increments of .5's

seta s_soundpoolmegs "32"........default was 24, more sound memory

seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic "0".............. change to "0", then enable Bi-Linear filtering, and your ddesired Aniso filtering via unituner or something to use ATI aniso filtering, which coul go to 128x via registry hack.

Let me know if there something you think should be added, I want everyone to get the most out of this great game.

Im still looking for the A3D and 3D audio area option.

over at jediknightII.net someone from Raven said it doesnt use a hunk megs system, unlike other QIIIA enigined games. In fact using hunkmegs could make things perform worse.

Yeah, I just read that,.. seems to be 2 contradicting reports. It IS in the MP config file tho, and that Raven Rep said that it helps aslong as you dont exceed 2/3 memory value. Was the second to last article on that site.

This is from Gawen, a devloper at Raven:

Gawen Crow sent the following about Q3-engine memory managment:
There is a file in the \GameData\base\ folder called jk2mpconfig.cfg. Open this file with notepad and search for a setting called hunkmegs. Default it says hunkmegs "64". This is the amount of RAM the game is set to utilize for graphics rendering. Performance can be drastically increased on machines with 256+ meg of RAM by increasing the hunkmegs value to 192 for 256k machines. As long as it does not exceed 2/3 of your total RAM your ok, so the value can be set even higher for machines with 512. After changing the value just click on save and play the game & wallah!

I moved it over to the SP config, and it did help me, load times were slightly quicker, but thats about it. Still, 2 biggest tweaks are the Mix Ahead, and preStep settings, along with OpenAL sound setting, this basicaly removes the stutter from the game when you die sometimes, or load a new area.

Also, jk2.net has a Darth Maul skin, along with the code to get Darth mauls double bladed lightsaber.... Looks SCHWEEEET!! heh

umm..

umm..

Is it normal for it to take like 2minutes to load the first level?

I just started the game so i can't test any other levels, but it seems really slow..

Yes, load times are sloooowww, but I do not know why...doesn't seem like the game is using an unduly large variety of textures...

Texture compression is the reason it takes long to load... turn it off in the config and the speedy load times return :)

Yeah this is what I had to do initially to get the game to work right without crappy audio and chitty framerates. Raven should know better. My level load times aren't all that bad, and I'm even running 32/32/compressed. Doesn't seem to take any longer than MOHAA or RTCW. I don't even have the quickload bug where the framerate supposably drops way down. Maybe it's because of all the tweaks I did right off the bat though.

On another note... this game SUCKS!
I have to reload constantly because of all the gay jumps you can't make. And hunting around in almost every single level for wtf I'm supposed to do next. ARGHHHH!

But Jedi Knight 2 kicks so much a$$ that I can't stop playing it. Ugh.

I have the game on 1280x1024 and everything highest possible LOD and running it on 4x aa (performance without blur :D ) 16x aniso, it plays awesome!!! No need to tweak here. Just had to tell you guys, cause its one of the smoothest running games Ive played yet with these settings. Dont know fps, cant be bothered, running smooth with wicked lod is plenty for me!! Way to go Raven!

Remember to use the "USE" key(E) on landing from a jump so you don't slip off those small surfaces

FPS in JK2

FPS in JK2

Do u turn on shadows(volumetric)?? I have 40-100 fps 1024-768 all viodeo max, but when i turn on volumetric shadows my fps drops dramatically 20-100. 20 fps when there are lots of people!!! Ive used programm "Frap" for fps calculation. p41900 Radeon 8500/retail. Shadows making game more realistic. Is there any way to improve perfomance?

Hey...i was looking for the DarthMaul thing...couldn't find it...can you post the exact link?
Also...is the double-edged light saber option available in MP and SP mode or just one of 'em?

double edged is mp only... from what i know. i dont bother with cheats. i sent something into jediknightii.net but i dont think they posted: devmapll g_saberRealisticCombat 1. makes life more fun. one sabre hit and they're f'd, only same thing applied to enemies doing it to you if you have no shields :)

Thanks for that Rage..
By the way...do I have to enable cheats first?
SHould I do this at the MP main screen?
Also...devmapll...did you mean devmap 1 or something else?
