I think I fried my Vid Card!

I have a Radeon 9700 pro card. I tried overclocking it using Powerstrip and I think I damaged it in the process. It still works, but when I play a graphics intensive game like Oblivion, some of the graphics, especially the text and panel on the bottom of the screen, are wavy and there is some flickering. I know I should have benchmarked it as I went, but I found online some settings someone was able to use with the same card and I set mine to that, and I got alot of artifacts. I put it at a lesser setting that also was on the web page and it seemed fine. The thing is, I left my pc on overnight and when I got up, there were alot of artifacts on the screen. I set my card to default and it seemed fine, but when I went to play Oblivion a few weeks later, I found the problems I already described. I can play and enjoy the game, but it stinks that I may have ruined a really good vid card. Has this happened to anyone and is it reversible?? I uninstalled Powerstrip and I am using the Catalyst Control Center. It is set at default. Thanks.:hmm:

Very very simple way to say it :
artifacts = card is damaged....

Call ATI and make an RMA request.. they'll replace your card and they can't proove that you overclocked it...

Good Luck

No. He broke his card by overclocking, ATI should not have to replace it. I doubt it is still under warranty anyway, 9700pro is 6 years old now...

I also had an ATI AIW 9700 awhile back. I had artifacts with that card and changed to an after market cooler. It helped for awhile then one day it went kaputz so I ditched it. IMHO, those artifacts are a clue that that card is dying slowly but surely.

what do I know? Well, as Sgt. Schultz would say, "I Know NOTHING! "
