I just got an Oculus CV1, game and software recommendations?

I've been swearing up and down that VR was a fad because the cost of entry is too damned high, but after trying it out last night I gotta say if you can afford it it's pretty f-ing sweet! Basically just got it all setup last night, was planning to try some games later. Any recommendations?

Also any good alternatives to the Oculus software? I hate having to be logged in online to use it.

Thanks in advance, appreciated.

HL Alyx.
Pistol Whip
Moss
Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
Super Hot

And BONEWORKS if you want to see what can be done in VR if you don't design a game that can be played by everyone, it is very janky and can induce motion sickness though.

Also, check the VR filter in your steam library, plenty of games have a free vr version.

I second Half-Life: Alyx (streamlined AAA), Boneworks (janky AA, but ambitious), and would like to add Beat Saber, Gorn, and Robo Recall.

CV1, nice!

btw, you're gonna be blown away when you try something with higher resolution!

HL:Alyx is definitely at the top of my list for VR, and there's a HL2 VR conversion coming to steam in Sep which should be good. There's a mod that adds all the levels from Bioshock into HL:Alyx as well, which was pretty cool.

Skyrim VR with HIGGS mod (Hand Interaction and Gravity Gloves, so it plays a little more like HL:Alyx)

MSFS2020 is great but can be difficult to get running well

Star Wars Squadrons is good for some space pew pew but the steam version runs like crap in VR, not sure if they fixed it yet. Seems fine through Origin though.

Pavlov is OK for some shootbang, it's basically a CS clone in VR with surprisingly good weapon handling.

I really wouldn't use it. These units screendoor effect and text readability is just awful. If you want it on the cheap, quest 2 is the way to go.

Contractors VR, best COD type shooter with lots of COD classic mod maps for free. Single player and multiplayer as well. My favorite of the shooter VR games so far.

War Thunder is free and runs well on most computers.

Elite Dangerous is great for VR, I have more time in this than any other VR game. Skip Odyssey though, it doesn't have great performance for VR. Can be played flat screen as well.

Project cars II for racing. VR or flat screen.

House of the Dying Sun is great if you like space games. Great in VR or flat screen.

Descent Overload is great flat or in VR.

Half Life Alyx is the best AAA title full length game for VR.

It was given to me and it's my first time getting to try VR, I don't mind the limitations. :)

great way to dip your toes in. you can always upgrade later if you fing that you love it and can't get enough.

btw, I kindof wish i had a CV1, just for my museum.

I second Half-Life: Alyx (streamlined AAA), Boneworks (janky AA, but ambitious), and would like to add Beat Saber, Gorn, and Robo Recall.

Can't believe Robo Recall has only been mentioned once in this thread. It's a classic, and for what it does, no other game has matched it yet. It definitely deserves a sequel.

I'll also throw in a vote for Lucky's Tale, if you like 3d platformers. It's sortof a Mario64-lite. Great game, although pretty simple.

And definitely try out Walkabout Mini Golf... one of the absolute best multiplayer games. I've convinced probably a dozen people to buy a Quest2 by having them try out Walkabout. Amazing stuff.

VTOL VR and Ultrawings for sims built for VR. Plus any good flight/racing title with a VR mode.

Also check out stuff like the Google Spotlight Titles for VR short films plus a number of free gallery type titles.
