One last question though.... Is there anyway to limit the GPU usage to say 90% a piece?

I ask this as when working I can feel that redraws to the screen are a little sluggish when working with multiple documents and browsing the web.

I glad that you have things up and running on these excellent GPU's. :D

To answer your last question. Preemptive multitasking is only available on CPU's by design. For GPU workloads it's assumed that the task asking for resource can get 100% of the GPU for as long as it needs it. Because of this there is no way to limit it's used to 90% - it's either all of nothing unfortunately.

I have noticed though that when folding on 2 GPU's that the screen lag is greatly reduced. If you only had 1 GPU and it was folding the machine would be pretty much unusable.

One other thing... Hopefully you have a passkey configured into you F@H Client. If you do, once you submit 10 successful WU's you will start to get bonus points for each WU. Then you are going to see your PPD (Points Per Day) skyrocket. Youshould end up being in the top 10 contributors on the team! :fold:

Ah right gotcha, thanks for the info, I will just disable one of them if I need to every now and then but to be honest for most tasks it is acceptable.

I have a passkey setup, I had no idea that you get bonus points as well, awesome

Did we miss the part where i game while folding on CPU and GPU at the same time??

I tried this out earlier today, nothing too stressful just a game of age of empires III, worked completely fine :D

Also another note: I forgot just how well the coolers perform on these cards, I can run them both at 950/[email protected] volts with the fan at 40% and they don't exceed 60 degrees Celsius (bottom one 50)

Ya like i said earlier unless i need the extra horse power i normally just leave folding running when i play games. And my system isn't anything special at the moment, it's been a few years since I've had a chance to upgrade.

Pretty sweet my blowers don't fare quit as well :p

I used to fold on the cpu and gpu with my 6950.One day I added a few more hd mods to Skyrim and played in 3D. On day 2 after 4 hours I bluescreened and nothing was the same after..always had to stop folding on the gpu.

Do you fold crossfired or not? I find slightly better performance when not crossfired.

I'm actually a single card user myself, Just my 6970 plugging away here at home and a 5870 at work. I've not been a fan of xfire or SLI.

@JohnEJohn... You are hauling ass up the team standings! Up 186 spots so far today and 920 in the last 7 days! :D

You also rank in 15th spot for points so far this week!

Thanks man, I'm running my machine as much as I can but I'm limited to around 10 hours per day at the moment.

Ordered a wall plug to show me actual energy usage, I will then run the machine a bit more once I calculate cost.... I don't mind say £20 per month.

At least I know my machine is stable :D

Welcome to the club! I saw you pop up on my threat list on EOC; looks like you'll be climbing up in the ranks very quickly :D

Fold on!

A quick question on projects, my gpu slots have been running the same project now for 6 days (project 7662) is this normal?

I realise that project parts are run multiple times with differing parameters etc I just wondered if it's normal for a single user to run the same project for a week?

Ahhh I think I may have answered my own question:

http://proteneer.com/blog/?p=1767

We’re also introducing an explicit solvent project (p7661) as part of the Beta. To keep the credit assigned to these projects consistent with previous explicit solvent work units run on CPUs, we are also awarding a quick return bonus with a k-factor of 0.75. This reflects the additional scientific value of these units, and keeps the Folding@Home credit awards consistent across different architectures.

Is there a beta core or some kind of CPU optimisation that can be set like with the GPU flags?

Right now 7662 is the only WU available when running the "Client-Type" = "Beta" flag on your GPU slots.

You can add the same "Client-Type" = "Beta" to your CPU slots also. But, you can expect wildly varying PPD's because these are new projects. You could also see random crashes and other instability running beta CPU WU's. There is no CPU optimization available in the client - you just get what's assigned.

About to be +1000 places in 7 days, which is my target.

It's pretty awesome, both gpus and the cpu are folding and I have several ides running, vurtual box running a few distros and a 1080p yt video and on they go
