I'm looking into the Radeon 64MB VIVO becuase it looks like the best all around card (to me anyway). I'm just wondering what the quality of the video-in and video-out is like. Also, what are your general comments about the card?

no coments of the card...it is just the best...
But for the video in just read some posts from me in the board to find what problems i had...the quality is not very good...the older AIW128 32Mb with the rage theater has many futures in the capture application and offcource the vivo does not have SVHS in that is very importand for the quality of the picture...before my radeon 64 vivo i had a ASUS v6800 deluxe and because of the SVHS in on the card the quality compared with the radeon is better :(
So if you wana serius video capture with serius quality of the picture and offcource for this you must have an very good quality source camera or video you must search for something else for video capture...you can use the radeon together with a TVwonder or Hauppauge WinTV or something similar...just find a card with 829bt or 848bt or 869...this chips is working with every cap application in the market and have very axceptable quality..any way the best quality you can take from the old GREAT Aiw 128 16megs rage128 with the bt829chip.... :) but with this you are going back to the tech...its sucks in 3d and it have the known futures that rage128 have...
(sorry for the english)

If I got a Radeon VIVO, it wouldn't be used for professional video editing (just casual things), so that's OK. What I really want to know is how good is the Video-Out?

The video out of the 64VIVO is very good. The only other card I had that had VO was a riva128, and this beats that by a wide margin. The VI on the other hand, as another user pointed out, is pretty bad. THe resolution seems lower than 320x400 and changing res, just scales the low captured video, still masking the detail. Plus the composite in and no Svideo means that you'll see tons of crawling dots on color borders. I had a Hauppauge WinTV with svideo and the capture quality of both are night and day. The WinTV did not mask any detail that the Radeon does. I'm not sure if the AIW Radeon has a higher capture res, but I'd stick with a 3rd party card for VI.

I dont know what ur setup is but my wintv SUCKED ASS compaired to the radeon vi.I have no dots or discoleration nore do I have any motion compinsation problems ???????

The Radeon's comb filter does not prevent crawling dots. If you don't believe me put up a SMPTE color bar test pattern and look at the horizontal and vertical color transitions and view it on your monitor. Since the video in is composite, the Radeon and not your source is separating chroma from luminance. Of course if it had Svideo in, your source would separate it and most likely does a better job at comb filtering.
Second, capture video with text and compare WinTV via Svideo to Radeon's video. I'm sure you'll notice the text captured with the Radeon's video is thicker and fatter. Increasing the Radeon's video in capture res does nothing to fix this--it just scales the window size.
But the Radeon has excellent video out. I replaced a stand alone Panasonic DVD player and am using WinDVD to output to a 27" tv.
