Impressive monitor from the specs (Samsung 900IFT?), but from experience I can tell you that 19 inch is not large enough for 1600x1200, so you end up limited to 1280x1024 for comfortable viewing which does not conform to the 4:3 aspect ratio. That's why my next one would have to be 21 or larger.

I would say that if one wants a small monitor they should go for 17 inch, but a large monitor should be 21 inch. There is unfortunately no standard resolution that fits the 19 inchers well: it would have to be about 1400x1050.

I recently found about this site:
http://www.monitorsdirect.com/

They sell their own brand of high quality monitors (have a look at the 21" Cornerstone P160002 or P170002). They also have the Samsung monitor you want to buy at 419$. I paid much more than that 3 years ago for my Viewsonic G790, which is certainly not as good as the Samsung. Things have changed a lot in 3 years.

I don't know that I agree there. I know that 1280x1024 is the optimal viewing resolution for a 19" monitor. I have a 15" monitor and the optimal res. for it is only 800x600 but I usually run things at 1024x768 (sometime even 1280x1024). I've seen 1600x1200 on a 19"monitor and it's not bad at all...especially whan you get a monitor like the 900IFT which has REALLY crisp image quality. 21" would be nice but that's really too big for my desk (and me too...yikes!) 19" is the max I can go. As far as the prices go for the site you posted I think they're all in american $??? I can buy the Samsung 900IFT for just over $600 CDN...it has a max res. of 1920x1440

Looks like an excellent monitor, and an excellent value at 600$ cdn. Go for it. I just hate 1280x1024 because of the odd aspect ratio...

Since the true resolution is 1920x1440, (a 4:3 aspect ratio) you will need excellent moiré cancellation to properly display at 1280x1024 in solid mid-tone colors. Moiré patterns should not be a problem for any resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

You should definitely get better results than me at 1600x1200 but my point is that you'll probably find, with time, that things are a bit too small at that resolution, perhaps making you wish you had purchased a 21" instead - to avoid the moiré patterns at 1280x1024 and circles that appear slightly elliptic (streched). I hope not for you, and I respect your opinion; it's just how I feel about my own purchase.

Also, I understand that newer 21" picture tubes have short necks, making them smaller than ever. Prices have dropped a lot but they are still much higher than 19 inch monitors.

Monitors sure have come a long way in the past few years...I would never have thought I would be able to get a monitor with a perfect-flat screen and only .20dp!!...simply amazing...I got to see the 17" 700IFT Samsung a couple of days ago. The desktop was set to 1024x768 @100Hz...my jaw dropped.

Hmmm. Multi monitors is the best. Three 17" cheapie SAMTRON monitors for me. All at 1024x768. Always room for everything. Only 2 things I hate. Windows makes you use the same wallpaper for all 3 monitors, and I keep losing my mouse pointer.

Edit: Each monitor was only $179us. Thats what I mean by cheapie.

HEy guys, im in need of a desperate upgrade in monitors. Right now im using an no-name 17" which i thought was really good. A few days ago i plugged my bros monitor in ( KDS) and i realized how crappy mine was.

I was just wondering, with the trade in in my monitor, which of the two would be a better buy...

1st)cdn $339 http://www.kdscanada.ca/AV-7TF.htm

2nd)cdn $329 http://www.samsungcanada.com/recipe_cards/recipecard.asp?model=753DF&category=PerfectFlatMonitors

Or anyother ones that you can think of. I would like to get a 19", but cash funds are tight right now, and the space im in, a 19" would be to big. :(

Right now im leaning towards the SAMSUNG.

Thanx

Excellent, looks good. Looks like that will be the one. Just wanna check around to see if i can grab it at a cheaper cost.

Anyone know of a good store in the perferably in MIssissauga area, if not, oh well, i guess a lil drivin wouldnt hurt.

Thanx chico!
