How common is it for your cellular radio to die?

So I bought an unlocked Moto G5 Plus new a few weeks ago. I am on a StraightTalk wireless plan on the AT&T network. So, I trimmed down my MiniSIM from my prior GSM phone and made it into a MicroSIM for the G5 Plus.

It's been a fantastic phone and I've had no problems until today when I lost service at work. Now, my building does have some dead zones and it only features Verizon 4G repeaters, so it's not completely unexpected, but the service never picked back up. I haven't installed anything new and rebooting did nothing.

I already had a Verizon StraightTalk MicroSIM at home that I recently bought because Verizon generally has better coverage in my area and I would get 5 bars of signal throughout my building at work.

The Moto G5 Plus supports AT&T and T-Mobile on GSM and Sprint and Verizon on CDMA, so it's a bit of a jack of all trades for carriers.

So anyways, I called StraightTalk and switched the service to the new MicroSIM and it's been hours and I'm still seeing shitty reception. I'll have a few bars, then nothing. I'm assuming, even if my number did not yet transfer to Verizon, I would at least see steady signal. Has anyone else ever gone through this? The phone functions perfectly otherwise, so I'm grasping at straws.
