Who here uses thier computer for a HTPC?

(See sig for system)

I have my AIW connected to a JVC 27" D-Series TV Via S-Video. Works good, text is hard to read so I am looking into HD.

I also have my computer connected to my A/V Reciever (JVC 7000). I have my SB Live Platinum 5.1 connected to my reciever two ways. The first is with an optical Spdif cable for DVD's. Works great but I only get stereo output for games. I have a real DVD player so I hardly use this, only for the DVD-ROM stuff on movies.

That is where the second connection comes in. I use the discrete analog 5.1 outputs from the card and using (3) 1/8" headphone jack to L/R RCA jack adapters it connects to my reciever's analog 5.1 inputs. This works excellent for games giving me true 4.1 & 5.1 output. FPS games take a whole diffrent direction when you can HEAR where your next kill is!

What about you? What do you have connected?

I'm running a HTPC setup:

Abit KT7RAID mobo
AMD Duron 800 CPU
256 Mushkin HP Rev2 PC133 RAM
ATI AIW Radeon videocard
MAudio Audiophile 2496 soundcard
2 IBM 75GXP 30gig RAID 0
Toshiba m1202 DVD player
Runnin PowerDVD
Win2K/WinME as OS

I have a my soundcard sending a pure digital signal to the digital in on my Onkyo TX-DS484 dts/dd receiver. Its connected to an all-Paradigm speaker setup. I use my 19" monitor as my display 'til I save up enough for a HDTV capable display.

I currently have my sblive connected to an old pioneer receiver using one 1/8" output to RCA jacks. Hooked up to the receiver are two aura bass shakers which are placed at my feet. My jvc MX-J56 (120w RMS per channel) mini system is hooked up to the output from the receiver. The mini system is running a pair of huge JVC tower speakers. The sound quality/volume/feeling i get from this setup is much better than any computer speakers can do. I know this is only a two channel setup, but that is all i need.
This is my humble setup i have put together over the past year. I think it's pretty good for a 19 year old kid.

Heheheh I got my dads Huge advent speakers for front and nice psb's for rear with a SONY DolbyPro logic reciver :)(and 2 amps) it all just bearly fits in here but it works great...I plan to move it all into the TV room when I get a larger screen :).....Then agian I only have this because my dad did pro Audio editing for like 10 years and now has al kinda's of kewl stuff I can use hehehe finally my dreams from when I was 5 have come true(I can use every thing he had.............hehe I love this old korg keyboard lol)

Well I only have My PC connected to my stereo, to be exact to my stereo's amplifier.. :0(
My AIW 128 is connected to my Sound Card (Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128) via the Line In , and then the Line out of my sound card is connected to my stereo's amplifier as an Auxilary..(Aux)
Nothing really good cause my sound card sucks ....(Basic one)

I'm planning to get the Creative PLATINUM 5.1 Digital ...
Is it a good idea ?
By the way I'm also panning to buy in these next couple of day a DVD Pionneer 16x ...

Thanx for your help

My system is : PIII 733 Mhz (133 Mhz Bus) (not overclocked)
128 RAM
All In Wonder 128, 32 Mb (not overclocked)
Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128
CD-ROM 48X

Soon: Platinium 5.1 Digital
DVD Pionner 16X

Platinum and other SBLives!

Platinum and other SBLives!

I'd recommend the SBLive hands down, but I'd also think twice about Platinum... If you don't really need all the whistles and bells of a front-tray set of plugs and an IR Remote control I'd say save a hundred bucks and pick up a Live! X-Gamer of Live! MP3 card instead. I believe (but am not positive) that it is the same card as the Platinum, with different software bundles.
I bought the MP3 version and it is great stuff. I have the rear speakers out to my Sony receiver and a set of 901 Bose speakers. I usually can only fire it up when I'm the only one in the house... (;-).
I'm pretty sure that the connectivity is almost the same between all the cards, you just pay twice as much for the front connector bay and the remote.

You sir, kick ass! Advents are great aren't they? I have a pair of advent 6x9's for my front two speakers and just some 8" sub for a car in a special box (works great) all hooked up to an old Sherwood amp that was before 5.1! The only problem with the sherwood is that I can hear some line noise on my sennheisers that isn't there on my MX300's amp'ed output. I wanna replace the advents with a pair of YSM10's here over the summer though.

Hey trunks, what korg is it? My friends got an MS2000 (lucky dick) and a whole slew of studio **** (some ensoniq sampler, two tape decks, dat recorder, an old atari with cubase, you name it). I just have a pair of XL-500II's, a numark DM1650 (old school baby), and a tape deck. I wanna add in an MC-303, mebbe a set of denon cd decks, as well as an MD rack recorder though.

BTW - TC1, I wanna kill you and take your sound card...jk m8
Good choice of card though, just a bit pricey (isn't yours the 10x10 with breakout box?).
