HDMI driver: ATI or Realtek?

Realtek has R1.92 of the "ATI HDMI Audio Device" drivers, but ATI/AMD has 8.5 out now... which is really the one to use?

Realtek or ATI/AMD?
 
I went to device manage (for XP) and ran the Update Driver for the video card sound (it was showing up as unknown). It installed the ATI driver and all is well for me. The problem I found with Realtek is their website doesn't make it clear which driver to use.

How do I get sound through the HDMI cable?

I just built an XP box for my dad and all is well, but how do I get the sound to be ATI instead of the onboard motherboard chipset (which is also Realtek)? It's easy in Vista 64, but not so intuitive in XP.
