So I just bought a New MSI gaming laptop. I upgraded the ram and added a SSD. So here's my problem the drive shows in BIOS and in my computer. But that's it. Disk management shows nothing partition programs show nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks Lazy. But it isn't showing in Disk Management. It does show in control panel. I'm so confused. I'll take it out and start from scratch.

Does it show up in Explorer? Can you right click on it and format it?

Nope it shows in BIOS and my computer but that's it. Doesn't show in explorer. I'm gonna buy a new drive different brand. I've beat my brains out on this thing long enough. Reinstalled it twice. I give up.

Open a CMD prompt and type each command listed in red...

Diskpart - This will open the cmd line programe Disk Part
List Disk - This will then show you all disk's it can see

Do you see your drive listed?

Ok it only shows the disk that came with the laptop. Something is wrong I'm getting a different one

Can you make a screenshot/picture of your screen with disk manageament open ?

Sorry just now saw your message. I've given up and taken the drive out to ship it back tomorrow. New drive will be here on Friday Crutial 1tb. I hope they're a good brand. Been out of computers for several years.

Best way to fix any issues with hard drives is to use the following.

Open CMD in administrator mode
Put sfc /scannow
Put format c:\ -f

:bleh:

It could actually be half dead. I haven't seen any drives not show up in Disk Management, kinda the point of it. That's a weird one

Edit: no scratch that, think I did have that once, bad connection. Hardware detected, but no actual drive.

I had kyt's same issue with a Samsung on my last build. Drive was DOA.

New drive was delivered yesterday. It's installed with zero problem. First drive was in fact pretty much DOA.
