GTA's drunk cousin returns: Saints Row is being rebooted

A Saints Row reboot is being teased by publisher Deep Silver, and has more or less been confirmed by Geoff Keighley, who's hosting Gamescom's opening livestream next week.

The Saints Row official website has been updated with a large image of a brick wall reading "rebooting." Keighley tweeted Friday that the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation will be "bossing" it with announcements, a reference to Saints Row's player character.

The Saints Row Twitter account confirmed that the reboot will be a "whole new game" and "not a remaster or remake."

That's about it for new details, but we'll learn more at Gamescom, which kicks off on August 25 at 11 am Pacific (2 pm Eastern, 7 pm BST).

It's been six years since we last saw the 3rd Street Saints in Saints Row 4: Gat Out of Hell, which was itself an epilogue expansion for 2013's Saints Row 4. Developer Volition let slip in a 2019 financial report that the studio was working on a new Saints Row game, but didn't share any details then.

So we had the "remaster" (complete disaster with nasty audio and stuttering bugs that were never fixed), and now they are doing a "reboot" which is supposed to be a brand new game.

yea.. luckily didn't buy the "remaster" due to bugs.

And it doesn't give me much hope for the reboot.

The devs for SR are the most useless turds ever. They didn't even bother to TRY to fix the bugs, they just released the game, released ONE patch (which ironically introduced the bugs) and then never touched it again.

Well fine then, I'll never buy your product!
 
I cannot imagine even for a moment the reboot will be better than the originals. As much as i love all the saints row games, the last few have more and more parts stripped out of them. It's only gonna get worse with a reboot.
 
WD2? Also, looks pretty bad so far but need to see more gameplay and less talking to random people who I'm assuming are the devs?
 
Looks pretty generic, and the guns/bodies reactions to get shot feel super meh. Also not digging this whole crew, there is way too much PC stuck into it (but then again, from the team trailer it's pretty evident this is a kind of check your privilege type of project).
 
You can still customize your character right? Like create the way you want them to look? I always created some bizarre super fat and deformed clown looking person with blue/green skin. I also gave them the "Jason Stathem" voice (even if it was a female :lol:).

I really don't want to be shoehorned into some generic college kid appearance...
 
the real question is, can we put on sexy lingerie and use the zombie voice? I'm really not looking forward to this new saints row. I want it so bad to be goode, but i'll never understand reimaginings... it doesnt make any sense.
 
Ahh yes, the generic gta clone driving and shooting cops.. It's definitely saints row alright... or is it watch dogs? Wait is it True crime? No its Driver! Actually maybe its mafia... ahhh it's sleeping dogs....

Nothing in that video or anything shown so far shows ANYTHING saints row related that isnt wearing coloured clothing or random on screen ui icons. Wheres the customization of the character? Where is the crasy gang actions? Wheres genki? Wheres the stupid inane comentary between the insane murder hobos? Wheres the crasy weapons? Wheres the homicidal laughing? Wheres the spray **** all over peoples houses with a sewage truck to lower realastate prices?

It's possible this game will have the stuff that makes saints row so great. There is still literally no reason for a reboot but it could be a great game. However nothing shown so far says its anything but a generic gta clone.

For ****s sake, THIS looks more like a saints row game than the reboot presentation so far...

EDIT: i know technically it is a saints row spin off, but even agents of mayhem is a far better saints row reboot than anything shown so far...
