Good resources for a person wanting to start learning HTML?

Friend of mine is looking to take up HTML and was wanting some good resources to start learning. Any book, website or tools you would recommend for a newbie starting fresh? They will be working in an OSX environment if that matters much.

Also Amazon occasionally has this series of book available for free on Kindle (Amazon's Kindle Reader is also available for free download on PC).
