going to F1. I need a new camera.

I spotted a few Nikons at Costco, around 400$ which seem a decent price range. I'm not photographer, I could still use my old Canon but the memory flash are obsolete and unusable, and tech has improved greatly since.

Of course, I could go with something more basics or more advanced, but I think one of these has the best middle ground for occasional usage.

Thoughts?

Canon Rebel Series are great for beginners. Pair that with an efs 55-250mm lens and you would be good to go.

no love for Nikkon? I thought they were better than Canon from the pros? I looked for Rebels and they are more expensive than those Nikkons and they only do half of the megapixels the nikkon offers, but the specs are a bit dodgy on both camp.

Without a decent telephoto you aren't going to get anything worthwhile at an auto-race, also learn to use the camera before going. Having the camera set up right makes a huge difference. Rapid fire, constant focus, wide aperture, stabilization on mode 2 (canons with IS)

No love for nikon? You're not posting in the photo forum. 80% of the people on this board seem to use nikon, unlike the real world where it's easily 80% canon.

It's all personal preference though, both brands make great cameras and you can't really go wrong with anything they produce.

It's true, I would think from this forum, it would be the opposite... But while in Italy, I saw almost nothing but Canon, a few Nikon, two Olympus, and one Sony.

Don't judge a Camera by the MP. Its all out the colour and the ISO quality. Plus good glass makes a huge difference.

The Panasonic LX7

The 24-90 f/1.4 equlivalent will give you more reach and more light for when the sun starts setting (or rising). It's small, compact and pretty much all you need for the occasional photo snapper. You don't need a DSLR to take great pictures.

My sister has a Nikon D3100 with a f 1.8 35mm prime lens. it takes fantastic pics even in auto. My cousin had a canon mark 5 something and he sold it because you had to mess around with it too much to take decent pics.

The auto white balace on the D3100 is fantastic... i'm sure it's even better with the new ones. Not to mention low light situations.

I have the same setup and its absolutely great for a beginner like myself. The D3100 is a fast camera so it would be great for F1.
