Gaming headset suggestions

I would recommend buying what you want now, rather than spending $100 on Astro's knowing that you'll replace them. IMO, do it once and do it right.

I used that logic and dropped $600 on Beyer DT1990s and it worked for me, at least.. LOL

The Astros wouldn't be replaced, they'd be used strictly for gaming. I juggled 2 different headsets/headphones for the entire time I owned the Razer headset up till late last year when the cans I used for music/movies took a ****. If not for the issues I was having with the Mic in my Razer setup, and getting this new motherboard with worse onboard audio, I probably just would've bought another pair of good headphones and called it a day.

Also to do what I REALLY want, I would need to spend at least double what I've spent so far, and this just isn't that high up on the list of things I want to dump money into at the moment. I'd rather put that extra money towards a new monitor, or desk. Especially considering that during most of the day I don't use headphones at all, I use my trusty Logitech Z-2300s. Headphones are really just for night time and gaming.

Isn't that always a fun moment to hit the diminishing returns line? And it feels like reaching that line with headphones is so comparably affordable compared to allot of hobbies.

SB Command and the G6 firmware are all up to date; did that first thing after I unboxed it (G6 actually shipped with the latest firmware).

Did some quick research and I'm not the only one with issues with SB Command crashing/disconnecting, but it seems to be limited to just the USB sound cards (G3/G5/G6).

Possible you have some USB bus issues. Maybe IRQ sharing problems with the USB port and other stuff in your system? Different ports might be different hubs/IRQs, so try some others?

Considered getting a PCI sound card instead with decent specs? Personally, I want as much INSIDE my case as possible rather than cluttering up my workspace. Really the only upside to USB is you can pack it up and use it for a laptop, etc, also.

I did a comparison between my "good" onboard audio and my old Soundblaster Z when I built my latest system... it was no contest so I kept the Z. I'm sure you can get better though if you were picky.

I overspent on my PC and my $500 chair a couple months ago, so I'm trying to cut back spending on PC stuff. If not for winning just shy of $500 on Super Bowl Sunday, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

It's not the USB port; it's the same port I used for the Astro Mixamp and my crappy Razer DAC. Also tried the front ports.

So my C6H had better sound than the Asus Xonar I had in my other rig, so I just stuck with it. However, this current board falls flat. Part of me wonders if that same 9yr old Xonar would sound better than my current onboard audio.

At some point down the road I'm gonna pick up another PCI-E sound card for sure.

So this saga has come to an end.

Wound up going back to the Astros and Mixamp, ordered the mod kit to get the different cushions and the different covers to make them true closed back. I also am adding a Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus to my rig. I can use the SBX to drive the audio to the mixamp via TOSLINK which will still allow me to use the mixing features on the mixamp.

At some point this year I will be getting a set of open-back headphones strictly for music and movies.
