First look at 3DFX’s cancelled Rampage GPU, running Max Payne, Unreal Tournament & 3D

"Martín Gamero Prieto has shared with us some images from 3DFX’s cancelled graphics card, the Rampage, and since I’m a huge 3DFX fan, I couldn’t resist sharing these images with you. Rampage was 3DFX’s last endeavor to develop a graphics card to compete and outperform GeForce3. This card was first developed in 1997 but didn’t see release until 2001 for several reasons."

I was looking forward to the dual Rampage with the transform and lighting chip called Sage. The official name of the sku would of been called Specter 3000.

Is this really a first look? Haven't there been Rampage demo's before?

Imho,

3dfx did go through a perfect storm and couldn't survive without strong revenue from the professional and oem markets and simply ran out of money.

The management of 3dfx let their millions of fans and owners down and Nvidia scooped up their core assets and engineering talent in December of 2000.

That was a tough day when 3dfx died, no more 3dfx gamers and Voodoo lounge to hang out; no more future 3dfx products to choose from; no more support for current sku's. The irony or reality check was my 3dfx email account was spammed with Nvidia promotions to buy GeForce.

Unreal w/voodoo 2 SLI is one of my most memorable computer gaming experiences. Was a huge bummer when they folded up.

Tough business.
