FireGL drivers, Linux and Radeon 8500?

Some say it can be done others say it can't - what is the truth? It would definately kick ass if I could use them.
 
ATI has to support Linux!

And it would kick even more ass if ATI would release official drivers for Radeon 8500. Start supporting Linux more ATI!
 
there's a thread in the Operating Systems forum started by NitroGL, apparently he got the new FireGL drivers released by ATI working on his Radeon 8500 and Slackware 8.0/2.4.18/x4.2.0 without any hacks at all.

It also works on RedHat 7.2 and 7.3 (again, with zero hacks).
