Wait, you don't even have 3G service yet? I did not even realize that that was possible in 2020. If you don't mind my asking, where do you live?
There. We can get 4G LTE service through Chariton Valley Wireless but at $60+/line.. its not affordable especially when 7 lines are involved and switching 7 lines with device installments on top of it.. just makes it impossible. Red = US Cellular Tower locations. Yellow= Chariton Valley.
Coverage map = US Cellular's view of signal strength in relation to "voice service" which is on their 1X RTT network still.
As for the deal... I've been ripping US Cellular a new asshole for over a year now. They've finally blocked me on most of their social media accounts (and I ain't being mean either.. I am just demanding they correct their coverage maps and tell the damn truth...) So they know full damn well their coverage here in town is **** and overstated. So their offer to me? $15/mo off the bill bringing the bill down to $42/mo. (They took $15/mo off the $36/mo installment plan over 30 months)...
We've been "marked" for a new tower since 2009 and it was approved in 2011 and all the FCC and Environmental certs done then just before construction was to begin in 2014.. US Cellular cancelled it without warning or telling anyone in the community or even their tech support. Their Tech Support was still under the impression it was still being built and lied to customers to convince them to stay with US Cellular. Ken Meyers is the big dog behind that one.
We have access to the following services...
1. Gigabit Fiber to the home (no data caps) (pricing varies on speed and cost to run the fiber cable to your house + equipment)
2. 25Mbps Wireless Fixed Internet (soon to be higher as the ISP is upgrading each site they have 2 per year.. Should bump speeds to 75-100Mbps down, 15Mbps up, no data caps)
3. 75Mbps Down, 20Mbps Up DSL (no data caps) for $74.99/mo (roughly $100/mo with all fees and such) <-- What I have.
4. 4G LTE through Chariton at $60 per line + fees and taxes and full retail pricing on devices. Not affordable for people around here with 4+ lines..
5. US Cellular claims 4G LTE but signal is too weak to get. They use the lower "B" 700Mhz band for 4G LTE and 850Mhz for 3G/1X and LTE. They are still using their 2002 3G antennas. No infrastructure improvements since 2005 here from US Cellular.
and yes, those are hay bales. We are out in rural USA. Mostly flat but some rolling hills. This tower is their shelbyville, MO tower. Placed in a low spot. So we can see the tower from my house but can't get service from it. lol. We are primarily serviced by the Newark, MO tower about 6.3 miles away.
https://specmap.sequence-omega.net/ <-- Fun little Spectrum ownership map. Eesh Dish owns a lot of 700Mhz nationwide.
