Dropbox users

As you're probably aware, Dropbox did away with public links and no longer renders files in HTML. I had used this to host image files to use with IMG tags on this and many other forums, including for sale pics, signatures, and general pics overall for use in various discussions.

Instead, Dropbox now makes these files "shared". Which means you can still link to images, but users gets that silly interface where they can post comments, share, etc.. Like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uj6rjt2ftsm9p67/hcnew1.jpg?dl=0

And you cant use IMG tags with them. That is NOT what i want at all.

What are some alternatives out there? I've been a long time drop box user, shame they went down that path.

Does google drive allow you to hotlink images? I have google drive also, but I don't see a way to hot link images or other web files (like here with the IMG tags for instance).

I'm not hooked on imgur because your images are "theirs", and it's not really a cloud storage solution like drop box is.

I remember back in the day when ISP's gave you your own dedicated web storage, and dropbox came along and made them obsolete. Now it obsoleted itself many years later. I mean, dropbox is not even allowing this on their paid subscriptions.

I can see image from link 2, and when I edit this post I can even see it formatted by Rage3d....but the image doesn't show up in another browser session.

Can anyone see the link 2 image?

Can't see either of these.

Tinypic for the win :3

EDIT:
Some one glued fruity pebbles to your license plate :sherlock:

Yeah I messed around with google drive long enough, couldn't get it to render directly.

I just created a personal account with tinypic to host any pics I want to directly link for now.

BTW fruity pebbles are delicious

Free hosting with hot linking will be gone forever soon. Bandwidth requires money. Each time someone views a hot linked photo, that is bandwidth the host needs to pay.

In short if you plan to or want to keep posting pictures and hot linking them, go ahead and find yourself a decent pay service. They are relatively cheap compared to what you paid for your car.

I don't know if bandwidth is the reason behind it, maybe more for security. I mean it's not even allowed on paid services like dropbox or google drive premium (if it did I would upgrade in a heartbeat). If anything, making dropbox more like box.com would take up more bandwidth, because they're forcing that silly interface with comments/sharing/etc..

Forcing people to their sites to view pictures allows for advertising and (data) analytic collection. You cannot do that with hot linking.

I can get the link, https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a...oGvJBZ8jiI2adj-e3LCmxGPDS95l8zzCjQ=w1920-h906

which leads me to a page that says..

403. That’s an error.

Probably a day late and a dollar short at this stage..
