I need a little help with a problem I’m having with downloading game demos off the
net. I living in BC Canada and I’m on Shaw at Home cable modem. I have a PII 266MHz with a ASUS BX P2B Series motherboard, ATI Epert98 AGP 8meg video card,Voodoo2 12meg card, soundblaster64 sound card, PCI Ethernet
ALN-201 Net work card from AOpen, SamSung 4gb hard drive, SamSung32x CD ROM drive. I’m running windows98 first. I have 1.70gb of hard drive space free.

When I try downloading a demo that is more than 20megs I do not get all of the file, or if I do get all of the demo when I go to unzip it, it says that the file is corrupted.

I have tried downloading the Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force demo using Gigex but all I get is 43% of the file and it stops downloading. I called Shaw for help and they told me to reinstall my TCP/IP.

My friend has the same computer as me and is on Shaw too he can download demos and
they unzip and work. He got all of the Star Trek demo and it unzipped and works.

Can any one out there please help me and tell me why I can’t download demos and why
they are always corrupted or I just get have of the file and it saves it to my hard drive. Please help.

Well, first of all, try to reinstall TCP/IP. Maybe the Shaw people know something.

Secondly, try using a download manager, such as Go!Zilla (www.gozilla.com) or GetRight (www.getright.com). A download manager can usually resume a dropped connection. It will also give you some visual feedback about the connection (at least Go!Zilla, which I use, does).

Thirdly, try posting at a forum that deals with communication issues, as more people are likely to help you there. Try the forums at Anandtech (forums.anandtech.com) - specifically the networking forum, and you might want to try Experts Exchange (www.experts-exchange.com).

Frist, get Win98SE,
second, use Netscape as IE cant download
more than 13MB at a time.
Getting download manager is also a good
idea.

But trust me, get Win98SE, its MUCH less
buggy. Not bugless but much less buggy!

Then, go to www.speedguide.net and get tweaks
that will help you pump 300K downloads from
cable!

Hope this helps, if not, note that hell is
pasted with good intentions ;)

Thank you for the help. I have tried a download manager to get Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force demo, but all I get is 43% of the demo and it stops downloading and trys to reconnect to the server. If I downloading with the windows98 download program I just get 51megs of a 115meg demo. It save it to my hard drive before I get all of the demo.

I'm using Internet Explorer5. My friend is using IE5 and he gets all of the demo. It unzips and he installed and it works.

I tried download MDK2 it was 82meg I get all of the demo but it will not unpack it says file is corrupted.

Why is it that every time I download a demo over 25megs the file is corrupted all the time?

Is anyone out there having a hard time downloading game demos? Please help me find out why I can not download files that are over 25megs.
