Display tab missing in 16.10.1 on R9 290

16.10.1 hotfix driver doesn't install correctly on R9 290 cards. Some of the files are not updated, which you only find out, on fresh driver installation (either using DDU, or uninstalling the driver first using AMD install manager)

After a fresh install, display tab is not there. Vulkan drivers are also not installed. Same problem is there with 16.9.2.

Going back to 16.9.1 and any other older driver fixes the issue.

I've found uninstalling is not such a good idea unless you plan on back dating your driver.
Just keep installing overtop. If necessary start with the last WHQL driver and update overtop from that.

Probably has to do with the fact Win 10 doesn't let you run with a "generic" VGA driver after uninstall and reboot. It'll immediately try to download the latest WHQL drivers from Windows Update. If you install Radeon Software while that's happening you could end up with broken drivers as the file updates will block each other.

I also normally upgrade drivers, instead of uninstalling the previous drivers first, but that's not the issue here. Both 16.9.2 and 16.10.1 don't detect R9 290 properly, and hence don't install all components of the driver. If you are upgrading, the previous driver will cover for the components which weren't installed, but the upgrade is still broken. Uninstalling the driver in this case, shows the issue you otherwise may not notice.

I don't think anyone is arguing with you here. And I'm not going to uninstall a perfectly working 290x system just to test your results. So I'll believe you and..

I'd suggest posting your issue here. http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D23A3DE979

Yes, I did submit feedback bug report first, before starting this thread.

I just wanted to clarify that driver installation on R9 290 for 16.9.2 and 16.10.1 are broken, whether you have uninstalled previous drivers or not. Either way, the new driver files are not installed properly.
