I installed Direct X 9 [Beta] and now 3dMark 2001se doesn't seem to feel like cooperating with me. I'm running XP so i can't download 8.1 because microsoft jus says that XP comes with 8.1

No big deal, it's just the reg setting with the version number that 3Dmark has a problem with. Use this program here...

This package contains registry scripts you can merge to enable/disable the method of fooling Windows and applications that DirectX 8.1 is installed even though DirectX 9.0 is. Very nice and a must have for stability / compatibility.
Use it & your problem will be gone.
