I just wondered if any had? I was going to reinstall the cats and do the mmc7.7 upgrade and the DVD player upgrade and wanted to know where to start. Also, If I go back to a previous driver (I use Omegadrive's atest without the ogl update) will i need to uninstall mmc 7.7 and the dvd player and go back to 7.6?

Hey,

I have been doing ALOT of tinkering with my pc lately. I don't know if this is "the ABSOLUTE correct way", but I got this installation order from a combination of the read me files from the drivers, and my initial installation CD.

I have been doing quite a few fresh installs lately (trying different things out), and the way I get my drivers in is this:

After a fresh install of Windows:
1) Capture Drviers (these need to be installed FIRST according to the read me file)
2) Display Driver
3) Windows Media Format Codecs (these need to be installed prior to MMC according to the read me file)
4) MMC 7.6
5) DVD 7.6 (if desired)
6) Guide+ (from the installation cd)
7) Hydravision
8) Remote software
9) DirectX 8.1 (Note below)

The reason I install DirectX last, is on a fresh install of Win98SE, I install all the above WITHOUT rebooting. Every application gives the choice whether or not to reboot after installation; I always tell it I will reboot later. Once DirectX is installed, you have no choice but to reboot, so that is why I save it for last. Also, on the cd that came with my video card, it was the last item to be installed as well (even though the driver warns you to have it in first). I think as long as you DO NOT reboot until DirectX is in, you are okay. If you reboot, and the computer tries detecting all the hardware without DirectX 8.1 in, I think that is when problems arise...

As far as "quirks" with this setup, the only noted are:

Upon reboot in 98SE, the remote control will start a "setup" wizard and it goes away by itself. Also, the drivers to the remote do NOT get installed. I have to update them manually with the files that the remote 1.1 software package puts on the hard drive (C:\program files\ati multimedia\remote\drivers or something very close to that). I don't think this has anything to do with installation order. The remote does this to me no matter what.

On the catalyst series of drivers, upon reboot, it finds most all the hardware, except one, which it prompts for the "ATI program disk" (or something similar). All I have to do is point it to the location of the proper driver. Noticed this only occured after moving to the new Catalyst driver. Does not happen in Win2K, only in 98SE for me.

Anyway, don't take this as the "official" order or anything, its just how I do it...But I do know the captures are supposed to be installed BEFORE the actual display driver, and the Windows Media Format Codecs are supposed to be installed BEFORE the MMC.

By the way, after a reboot, that is when I update my MMC to 7.7 (all it really updates is the TV application), and remote software...

Hope this was of some small help...
