Crossfire 7950's to 390X?

Well the 390x may not be up to the 7950 cfx when working perfectly..I think the 980TI is around that point..But as this card is beyond your budget anyway it doesn't matter anyway...

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/R9_390_Nitro/23.html

If you look here the 380 may be around a single 7950 performance imo so a 63% multiplied by 2 means around 126%..The 980ti is 128% ... But if you count that the CFX scaling may be 95% or 90% shaving 10% from that 126% lead around Fury pro .... The calculations were made with 1080p resolution in mind...

My impression is that Crossfire scaling has been poor in most of the recent games I've played (Arkham Knight didn't even support mgpu) and it certainly doesn't scale well with some older titles (thinking about EVE online and FSX).

Dunno, perhaps my cpu is holding me back. Fact is, after nearly six years I'm giving up. I'm tired of whining at every major release because there is no mgpu profile, and then it's a 6 months wait or nothing. And my GPU natural upgrade cycle (when I feel the itch, that is) seems to be around three years anyway (bought the two 7950's in April 2013, had two 6950's before that).

Hope I'm not being naive, but I'm convinced that single high-end GPU is the way to go nowadayas, and Nvidia has always been out of my pocket reach.

Card should be getting here by the end of the week. Unfortunately I had to lay down another 90 Euros for three Sapphire active DisplayPort to DVI adapters, as replaicing three budget 24" Acer monitors was not an option :D

I never had CFX so i can't talk about it but seems that from 290 and upper things got better looking at reviews...
Less worries on my head the better...I jumped from single 6950 to single gtx 970.

That must have been quite a leap!
In my case I second your statement: less worries on my head the better ;)

I bought the 6950 in december 2010 and the gtx 970 in december 2015 ... If i had waited to december 2016 it would have been a really qunatum leap with Polaris and HBM2 ...

I say you've waited damn long enough. You can prolly enjoy your 970 for another year.
Even if rumors for Polaris seem truly positive, I usually tend not to jump on the new architecture bandwagon right away, so I figure I can let the situation settle and enjoy the 390X for a while before the urge for an upgrade comes again. And, as I said, I notice I usually run on a three year cycle or so, regardless of the fact that this time around the decision was really driven by my growing unsatisfaction with mgpu.

If there was a 390 with tonga cores i would have bought that but 390 architecture is older than the gtx 970 so after 5 years i wanted the newest stuff and 380x was not really enough and the Fury pro was too expensive so the green side had the middle ground this time...Also the gtx 970 was discounted enough to make it more apealing over 380x.

well, he is trying to replace two 7970's with a 380x, which I think is nuts! In my case I'm happy I have gotten out of the Crossfire hype. Liking my new 390X so far, runs surprisingly cool. Rise of the Tomb Rider running like a champ with stable fps. So glad I don't have to wait for mgpu optimizations that most of the time never come.

damn tight fit. barely touching HD encasement. one more millimeter and new case would have been required
sexy backplate btw

monitor connections. sheesh. as usual nothing is ever disclosed as far as priorities. ended up hooking one monitor via dvi to hdmi adapter as it was the only way to get all three screens to 72Hz, and that is only if the two furthest DP's are used. Any other combo wouldn't work.

I've had both SLI and CFX systems in 2-way and 3-way and tbh single gpu is just so superior it's not funny. Forget resolution imo, IQ makes much more of an impact. You just need to run HD or over at native, then let the developers work their magic with in-game max IQ settings on a single GPU imho. The fluidity and compatibility alone make it the better option.

I'm now playing ROTTR with 2560x1440 VSR and everything on high except PureHair on Very High.
It's embarassing how much better the game runs and is more responsive compared to my previous 7950 Crossfire setup, provided the two couldn't handle such resolution without fps plummeting. And IQ at 1440p is jaw-dropping.

Next on the list, Shadow of Mordor and Arkham Knight with uber-textures

Can't believe I was stuck 5 years with mgpu hoping things would change.
