I just received the Chrome Orb in the mail...Just to let you guys know this thing a over seized paperweight. My Stock fan ran at 36-38(no load) while the Orb runs at 45-46(no load) and thats with thermal paste on the Orb and not the Stock....So Just letting you guys know!

Curio,
I thought i did at first, but taking it off I realized I didnt. So I tried again, put a small amount on then smeared it with my credit card... I tried again and still had the same results.

My stock fan kicks some azz, I just looped Quake3, and ran the Ark demo over a few times and the temp never rises above 40-41...Go figure!

OK, this is a STUPID question, but it may be the one. Did u plug the fan into the ATI's 3 pin conn, or did u plug it into a normal PSU socket. As far as I know the Chrome(? thot it should be Blue) Orb's fan is a 12V one, if you plug it into the Radeon's plug, u may be getting 5V which is unpowering the fan...

E.T.
The chrome fan I'm using actually plugs into the motherboard power(the cpu power-outlet for the fan)This Orb was attached to my cpu, not the radeon...I think that what you were thinking?...It was only $15 anyways, its junk!

LOL :D Sorry... THAT is what I was thinking. Seems like my IQ dropped 2 notches there!

The Chrome Orb is an above-average HSF, but it does not compete at all with the likes of the Alpha, but I admit that it's cheap and performs better than a block of aluminium. :)

Get the global win FOP32, this bad boy keeps my P!!!800E@1024 on 1.95volts at a cool 41 degrees celcius, while running seti's text client for a couple of hours, and thats just with the radio shack white paste. It even stays @ 45 celsius when idle with the fan stupidly left unplugged for about half an hour.

I have a CoolMaster CPU/heatsink and keeps my 800MHZ AMD Thunderbird @ 31 celsius My current system temp. is 19 celsius. The fan is phat cause the heatsink is like a box w/ the fan on top(It's all closed in). The fan spins @ 4500rpm..
