Win98, RagePro 3D and Bt829 chip on mobo

I am trying to resurrect this old 300mhz machine as a webcam.
It has video input jacks, and I see a RagePro 3D chip and Bt829 chip on the mobo. There may also be a tv tuner chip on there, but I dont know.

My Win98 install does not have with any video capture SW.
When I try EZ Video Capture, it just grabs what is on the screen.
I need a driver that will talk to/enable the Bt829 and show the video input on screen.

I see nothing in device manager that mentions video input or the Bt829.

The popular Universal WDM Video Driver does not seem to support the Bt829, and will not install. I have the ATI Rage Pro 3D (atir3) driver, and have also tried one of the BigZ drivers.

They install, but in each case, I see many entries in Microsoft System Info under Components-Display that say "no driver installed". One of these entries is Bt829.inf, a file that is in windows/inf.

Maybe it is all working and I just dont have the right app and maybe I need another driver.

Can someone point me to the right steps/driver/app to get this going?
Is this the proper forum?

thanks

Compaq/HP shows this model as having a Rage LT Pro chipset, but it does say "3D" on the chip.

Try the HP drivers for the card. They should still be available.
Try the remainder of my drivers... They are supposed to support the BT829.
Try ATI's MMC as capture software.
Ensure DirectX is up to date.

ATI driver 4.11.2628 and assocated video capture SW seem to work. Previously I was not uninstalling before trying a new driver so maybe one of the others would have worked.

One thing is in device manager adaptor diagnostics, it still fails the video in test with 'brooktree chip no found'. In MS system info under display, it still says 'no driver installed' for Bt829.inf. I guess these are not reliable methods to see if you HW works!

When I capture to avi with the ATI Video Player, I can play it back, but only in the ATI player. It won't play in Real, WMP or Quicktime player (latest free versions of each). The avi formats available are:
ATI VCR 2.0, 1.0, ATI packet YUV, Indeo YVU9, mpeg raw YVU12.

Are these all proprietary formats?
What format is recommended?

Correct.. the format is proprietary. You can download the codec from ATi though.
Try the Compaq drivers for your card. These should work the best and best support your card, especially due to the design of your motherboard.
