...now the font rendering is different. Not sure if it is better or worse just yet but it sure is different. Any way to bring back the old style?

This has been a bug since forever. Chrome on windows doesn't render fonts very well compared to FF/IE. This is especially true for sites using custom fonts. Version 37 is supposed to fix all that and use DirectWrite like the other browsers.

I've had to deal with this problem a couple of times on some front-ends with some webkit specific CSS trickery using Open Sans from Google.
