choppy dvd playback

i have a compaq presario 1692 laptop with ati rage lt pro agp 2x video. i'm running winxp pro and latest driver from ati. whenever i play a dvd movie it runs about 5-7 fps. anybody have a suggestion? thanks.

Lets start at the top.
Patch that Windows XP up.
Install latest DirectX.
Reinstall Video driver.
Reinstall DVD proggie.
Fixed?
No?..

Reduce resolution on monitor to ensure that the video card uses overlay mode.
Close all background programs.
Increase task priority for the dvd proggie from Task Manager (2k/XP/2k3).

Also, the latest WinXP ATI drivers for the rage pro (6010) do not support DXVA. I suggest using the 5772 drivers which do support DXVA and are available for download at Big Z's website (www.geocities.com/ziyadhosein)

thanks guys, i increased priority and installed new drivers and it workes great now.
