My cdrom just gave out over the weekend...oem crap. Anyways, need advice on getting a new one. Would like a cdrom/dvd combo if possible. Any suggestions????:)

Ricoh makes a CD-RW/DVD Rom combo, dunno how much it costs.

HP has the 97xx DVD/CD-RW Combo, 12x10x32x and 10x DVD Rom or something like that for $349.

Well... i think a seperate of DVD rom and a CDR/W will be better because u can use disc on fly. hehe...

Anyway, if u are not watching DVDs on ur computer, i a bit useless to use DVD Drives (Unless u use some very "huge in size" software, such as Encarta)

Personally, I like my 16x DVD drive, but it was the BIGGEST waste of money I ever put into my computer. It works great and everything, and I have TV output to a big screen, but honestly it would have been so much easier to get a desktop DVD player with a remote control for about the same price! I'm still annoyed at myself for getting this thing, no matter hwo well it works. I say spend your money on the best CDRW drive you can, and get a seperate DVD player with remote!

Get Seperate

Get Seperate

Seperate, you get more options and you get faster components for a cheaper price. There are some writing problems with CDROM/DVD problems. The only reason you should not get them seperate is if your case can't hold two or more 5 1/2 bays. Almost all motherboards have 2 channels and you can have two IDE drives on each.
