Catalyst Sucks!!!!

Ive tried everything to get this stupid driver loaded. All I get is a green tint and my 'displays' menu is stuck on some weird display type. If I try to go above 800x600, my monitor goes black and I have to reboot in safe mode. I've tried every combination of install methods I can think of. Oh well ATI, nice try. I guess you can't polish a turd!!!

XP 1900
Asus A7V333
256 MB DDR 2700
SB Live
 
BS these ae the best drivers yet. You obviously have some incompatability somewhere, as they work fine on my Retail radeon my mate has the LE and all is fine.

I'd say check your monitor, possibly driver for that or its the motherboards chipset drivers (this is esspecially the case if its a VIA shitset)
 
1)Dun overclock
2)Install VIA drivers 4.39
3)VIA Latency Patch 0.20beta
4)Reinstall os
5)Remove ATI drivers cleanly
6)Rearrange my PCI cards so no IRQ conflict
 
This thread should be moved to the 8500 technical support. Since clearly this is some WEIRD HARDWARE problem.

If the original poster even wants any help. Not sure about that or just to flame @ ATI.

I was just thinking the same thing - how not to first post! I guess he's right though - the drivers aren't working for anyone else and the Radeon 8500 is a really slow video card with low quality visuals. The 8500 certainly isn't a turd!

Maybe the people competant enough to have a working machine are all wrong?

First of all look at your display settings from ati, make sure you don't have both monitor and tv both at primairy. Disable your Tv.

Although I like the last Omegadrive released drivers better the Catalysts seem to work ok on my system. I just thought they werent as nice as omegadrives. But this is per my system only. I do however like the new control panel on the cats. I hope maybe Omegadrive can work them cuz I would use them =)

WHAT!!!

I'm not sure i understood u there did u mean the following:

1) the drivers don't work for any other Radeon cards and only the Radeon8500

2) these drivers make the Radeon8500 run slowly and the quality looks bad


OR

is it a case u were defending the drivers and the Radeon8500 card

I don't know if the original poster has hardware conflict but all I know is that the newest Omega driver kick ass. I was able to gain 200 3DMarks with Catalyst so my guess is next Omega driver version will own.

Jezus christ... stop freakin using 3DMark as a HOLYGRAIL of testing. By far its the most flawed and only tests the D3D part of your videocard. Plz ppl, bench at least with more than one app... or better yet, bench the games you play instead!

You dont do the ME sets only Omegadrive does and I run ME. But I am glad you will be working on them for the xp crowd =) You Da man.
 
Yeah I agree, people need to stop relying on 3dmark2k1 as an accurate benchmark, and test more of the games they play, cause obviously we can't play 3Dmark now can we?

Yes you can ;). If you upgade to pro you can play the car level. You can shoot rockets and drive around :D:D

I was having a laugh - I find the quality of the Radeon cards to be great and haven't had a single hardware problem with the card either.

By the way, it's good to see someone from Derbyshire here - I grew up there!

Re: other posters.
I too am sick of the "I lost 300 3D marks" brigade. If you can't tell the difference in the applications you're using, what difference does it make?
