Driver website Quote "AMD has received feedback that some users are unable to install the Catalyst 14.4 driver on some motherboards with AMD chipsets. We have investigated the issue and have determined that it was caused by the AHCI driver component that was included with the driver package.

We have therefore removed the AHCI driver component from the driver package and will be providing it as a separate download."

What this really mean is install this at your own risk. It nuked my AHCI drivers and I couldnt boot. Nice. Reset bios setting loaded the windows 7 disk. Rebooted and the system booted up.

Not sure what the disclaimer is telling us to do but it got me nervous for about 10 minutes. What separate download?? What order to install??

I am all better but now you all have been warned. :)

Windows 7 PRO
AMD MSI 790FX
AMD 965

SSD San Disk 256 Extreme 2
AMD AHCI ON in bios

You're a bit late...;) Check out the 14.4WHQL thread...

But thanks for the news...I'm surprised this hasn't been featured prominently somewhere on Rage3d...it would be terrific, too, if you had posted a link...;)

Never mind: I found it.

So
Now I installed 14.6 because my 270x was crashing in BF4 after the new update. This new cat 14.6 killed my ahci completely now. It is a dead duck.

I am now stuck with IDE only in the bios or else the system will not boot. Blue screen. I have tried the microsoft fix update for ahci. However it does nothing. Downloaded MSI drivers for the board. Nothing. It seems I can not go back to the original microsoft ahci drivers that work and support trim.

I have to say AMD/ATI you have a bit of a problem on your hands. I still do not understand their qoute about this one will not hurt your system. When it does in fact.

So any thought on how to revive a dead ahci. I have followed the post on AMD forum however it did nothing for me.

Sounds like the registry put you back IDE mode.

That did not do the trick. It gave a blue screen at the first sign of boot up. I believe the AMD driver doesnt let microsofts kick in. So that little trick doesnt work for me.

I have an AMD ticket answered. The left detailed info on what to do. I will work on it tomorrow. I will update the post.

Thanks

Any news?

Caught by this issue, why the hell is AMD still bundling SATA driver with a video driver install.
This is at least the 4th time in the last few years where they have sprung this retarded **** on me.

Seriously if AMD cant work out NOT to bundle SATA drivers with Video drivers they will never work out why people dont trust their motherboards/CPU.
If I had a intel sytem I could install AMD video cards with impunity.... because it would not hose my system drivers....FvkVits

And if they are going to bundle SATA drivers, try testing them

very nearly ex AMD fanboy

That actually turned out *not* to be the problem with my 14.4WHQL install, after all--I've dumped the 14.4's permanently.

Anyway, I always install the Cats via the "custom" install route so that I can see what's being installed and *disable* the install of certain drivers, like the SATA driver, if I want to. I can't advise ever using the "Express Install" option--if anything, the Cats should have only one install mode: custom.
