Can't Install Driver For Vega 10 Graphhics

Hey gays,

I bought a new notebook too replace my aging Surface Book.

Acer Swift 3 with a 2700U processor and a Vega 10 graphics.

My issue is the fact I can't find an updated driver. The best I can find is off Windows Update and its dated December 2017... If I download he latest drivers off AMD they won't install.

Adrenaline 18.3.4-march23.

What am I doing wrong and is there an APU driver of the 18.3.4?

I think AMD is leaving it up to the manufactor to release drivers for these solutions.

And the generic installer checks for what type of product it's going to be installed on and stops when detecting APU's etc., probably.

That's my experience with "laptopgraphics" at least.

You are ****ing serious? AMD isn't going to support the Vega 10 with driver releases???

With Nvidia you get a driver release for the entire line whenever a driver update is released.... I've seen videos online with Vega 10 running the March Adrenaline but I can't find anything on how they got it installed unless I do it with an edited inf.

EDIT:

So I checked Acer's site downloaded the driver that is dated March 2018 for the Swift 3 model, thinking nice its gotta be the latest Adrenaline/Relive driver..... Nope, December 2017, lol what a joke.

AMD does support mobile APU's, its there right on their driver page, perhaps you are not looking hard enough or your laptop is a special case, for laptops sometimes the manufacturers, include extra in-house features that AMD cannot support on their normal driver and installing them, will cause problems or remove that features, in that case if the laptop manufacturer has no updated driver for your laptop, even tho AMD has new drivers, then you need to contact them, in this case, you need to contact Acer and complain.

Btw unless you are having a problem in some game or you lack some needed feature IMO there's no need to update. For example, because of a mobo problem and while i wait for the replacement, i add to go back to my old AMD HD 5770 and i'm able to play all my new games with the older Crimson 16.2.1 driver, with no obvious problem, apart from having to play at lower settings because of the older GPU.

No, I've had countless ASUS laptops with nVidia GO series, I couldn't download and install driver from nVidia, had to rely on ASUS.

You just download the Go series driver or the xxxM labeled driver as long as its not a legacy product. I've never had issues installing the GO drivers.

Treeck I can't view that video.

Yep, won't work.

Bummer. That's so weird. But I'll just copy and paste to here.

For some games it can be helpful to (force)install the latest Vega Drivers for your APU. So here is a Step by Step manual:

00:01 - Download the latest Vega Drivers
00:25 - Go to the Dowload location and run the installer. This will exctract the needed driver files to C:\AMD\[Driver Version] (by default)
00:53 - Close the installer after the files have been extracted
01:01 - Go to System, Device Manager. There you go to "Display Adapter" and right-click on your Radeon GPU. Now you choose "Update Driver"
01:11 - Click on "Browse my computer for driver software" and then "Let me pick..."
01:17 - Click on "Have Disk" & "Browse". Now go to c:\AMD\Win10...[driver version you've downloaded]\packages\drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\[inf file] and select the inf file.
01:37 - Now you choose "RX Vega", "Next" and "Yes". It will now try to install the driver.
01:56 - If it does not work (like in the video), you have to download and install the driver "18.1.1" first. It will allow us to install newer drivers.
02:04 - Download 18.1.1 driver.
02:37 - Extract it like the driver before.
03:10 - Install 18.1.1.
04:20 - Install 18.3.4 (or later).

If you experience performance problems: Change from "Fullscreen" to "Borderless Window Fullscreen" in your game's graphics settings. Hope this helps.

Treek, thanx I'll give it a shot at break.

Not meaning to hjack you'r thread, but that never worked for my laptops, always error about unsupported product, contact manufactor etc.

Alright so Treeck your method worked, I was able to force the 18.1.1 driver, I then was able to force the 18.3.4 driver. Unfortunately it then went to a black screen and never came back. I had to power down the system and turn it back on to get it up and running.

18.3.4 is installed but alas there is no Control Center, all that was installed was the driver which sucks. I can not force an install of the Control Center either as the installer keeps stating I am still on 17.7 which I am not and then states unable to find driver.

I am at a loss for what I should do. Part of me says take the notebook back, get a refund and buy an Intel/Nvidia notebook atleast then I'd have control over the system.

But on the other side its refreshing to try something different. I have to fight and find work arounds to get the system functioning. I've run in to issues where the screen will just go black when I exit World Of Warcraft resulting in a CTRL+ALT+DELETE which does bring up the task manager but it then locks. I have to completely restart the PC. Having to hack a driver to get it working is a pain in the ass.... Also there is a lot of backlight bleed on the screen. I've had the wireless drop out at work today as well.... Although I should probably reload the system since I've been screwing with drivers so much.

Honestly, AMD doesn't plan to support the APU at all???? There is no driver for the Radeon Vega 10 listed on its site...

Atleast I'm not the only one....

Again, thanx Treeck.

You're welcome. And yeah, it sucks. Unfortunately, I had experienced had a little issue with my laptop which has mobile Radeon GPU driver due to Windows 10's updates caused it acting up weirdly. However, until a few months later. I reinstalled Windows 10 and then installed the latest driver. Now, the problems were gone away. I don't know why or how. It's just weird.

**** me, so with the hacked 18.3.4 driver when exiting WoW the system no longer crashes. It will make it back to the desktop which is useable for 20 seconds and then locks up. Tried this at 10:00am, played WoW for 10 minutes at break, tried it at noon and played WoW for 25 minutes during lunch and just now been playing it for 10 minutes and same thing. I can count to 20 and guarantee each time it will lock hard.

Its going back tonight and I will probably pick up an Asus or MSI with a Core i7 and 1060 graphics...
