Can drivers affect a games loading time?

Ok, so I tried completely offline, removed HID compliant devices and also disabled HID in admin services, as that used to cause issues back when..

I also tried with all usb devices unplugged but for the mouse..

And it's still anywhere from 3-8 minutes desktop to menu.

I'm going to try some more driver sets, and then just go to another game

I really appreciate the tips and help guys, thanks :)

If I think of anything more to suggest I will. In the meantime good luck.

Thanks man - I'm confused too. The game has loaded just fine on several other machines for me. If I figure it out I'll post the solution as others may run into it too.

FWIW, that sounds like they were trying to fix a problem with the original Dark Souls since they mentioned GFWL. Lazy8s mentioned he's having an issue with Dark Souls 3.

I am aware of that, but it is not uncommon for bugs like this to follow thru the sequels. Which is usually lazy or incompetent devs. But it happens all the time, as many just build off modified code for the sequels, even if they try to use different, updated engines.

one thing you can do is find out what file the settings are saved in, and delete it, so it has to recreate it. could be a glitch in how it saved it. I have had that happen before as well.

I'll give that a try too  I seem to remember having to delete the .blob, or some such file for HL2 before because of something like this.

Oh, Dark Souls 1 is refusing to launch again as well :p

Master race! It'll all be worth it when everything is squared away.

Ok, finding some threads on AMDs community..apparently the series has a lot of problems with the crimson series drivers. Rolling back to the catalyst sets fixes the issues, but players are stuck with much lower framerates, even on low settings. Seems to affect everything from the r9 285 on up and seems to be completely random. :(

Ok this is getting bad. Now I can't uninstall AMD drivers. It's greyed out in the CP.

AMD uninstall utility better work....

edit: Back on the latest drivers. I went all the way back to the catalyst driver trying one or tow from each year. Das won't run and Das3 hasn't gotten any better.

LoL, I need a new hobby.

It WAS the drivers all along. I just installed a 16 series set from July 2016 and bang, Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 fire right up, desktop to menu under a minute for DaS 3.

wow - that's something like 16 drivers I tried from 2015 0n to the latest that these games would not play nice with.

Glad you eventually found a driver that worked.

Sad that it was such an issue, you would think Dark Souls 3 was a popular enough game that even AMD would have an optimized driver for. Now hopefully using an outdated driver doesn't cause performance issues with any other games.

I think this was one of the official releases for the title. What's really pathetic though (good for me though)is that the IQ in this 2 year old driver shows tons of detail the newer drivers don't.

Like I said, win for me and my system though. Looks great on my new Freesync monitor. :)

Specs say only the Omen version has freesync, but it lies :)

So far I love it. As far as a "budget" monitor ($343) goes, it's a beauty and zero screen flickering or tearing. Very happy with it.

The game just unlocked for me and using 17.12.1 drivers game loaded up fine and only took maybe 10sec

Thanks Higgy - it has to be how drivers work on this card then. When I got up this morning it was not working again. Turned out windows updated the driver for me

I found a bit on windows support that said if you roll back a device and it's software from device manager, and tell it at the prompt that the update breaks certain apps (an option box you get) that it won't update the drivers again.

So all is working again now, and I'll just wait and see if windows breaks it again on me. I never understood why they think updating drivers for add in cards is a good thing, not doing me any favors lol.

Stupid windows. Whats the fs range on your new display?

How do I find that? I think it's 48-75Hz, but that's going off the HP Omen version. Same monitor basically, but specs say the Omen has fs and mine doesn't, but the sticker is on the monitor, the drivers detect it as a fs monitor, and the "freesync on" message pops up when I turn it on, so I guess it has it.

edit: Found it - 48-70
