Bose CineMate 1 SR... anybody have first hand experience?

Seems kinda pricey to me, but I can't seem to figure out an aesthetically pleasing, seperate 5.1 system that looks and sounds good without breaking the bank. I would also consider a sound bar with 5 analog inputs from the Denon amp just like a discreet setup. Denon amp has the Audessey mic calibration and i would hate to sell it off as I like it fine. It does the job. It decodes Dts MA and Dolby HD --the bose only has optical in and no HDMI.

The room's small.... maybe 12x12 would be my guess.

Define "aesthetically pleasing". For the cost of a Cinemate you can build a 5.1 system that would absolutely destroy the Cinemate many many times over.

Are you looking for something more like this?

Something that's small and discreet. To me, the speakers you posted look amazing, but I'm trying to fulfill somebody's wishes of not having gigantic speakers -- especially when the area is kind of small.

Must pass WAF? So... bookshelfs? If so, you would have even more options since manufacturers seem to open up more design-wise on bookshelf speakers.

Good speakers with nice designs may be a little pricier but still definitely attainable. I tell people that good speakers that you will be happy with is a very good investment, as a good set of speakers should last you at least a decade or more. How long is your computer gonna last, or your TV? Speakers are something worth chipping in a little more for if need be. Don't settle for crap like the Cinemate, it will leave you disappointed and $1300 poorer. Not to mention your e-penos will shrink

believe me, I know all about bose's overpriced underachieving products, but I've heard good things about the 1 SR . If only it had it's own DTSMA/DHD decoders. But thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to dig a bit more . what are the first and the fifth speakers you posted?

1st - Mirage OMD5, woot has these occasionally for a big discount. You can also look at the smaller but much cheaper nanosats.

5th - JBL L820CH. The have a much cheaper/smaller version along with a different but similar style, the ES10.

I just picked up a 5.1 set of Q Acoustics 2000i only they supplied me with the more expensive 7070i 10" sub.

Powering the system with a Yamaha RX-A2040 and it sounds amazing, would poo on anything bose, size isn't too imposing and price was reasonable.
