BenQ 1080ST Exploded

Well after about a year and half with this awesome BenQ W1080ST for my home theatre I had a very nice scare this morning.

Was watching the news this morning about 11:00am, was just sitting there on the couch when POOF! A fireball burst forth from my projector right infront of me. I made a special stand/table at work that my projector sits on. After the fireball the screen flickered turned weird colours and and then I was presented with a nice red light on the top of my projector followed by the most acrid smell you could imagine.

Good thing I got a 4 year warranty on it from MemXpress.

I have it set to Smart ECO and had a timer set for my lamp but it wasn't up yet, shouldn't have been up till April 2016. I am thinking its just the lamp but the fireball that came forth from it has me doubting???? Dunno.

Probably just the lamp.. if it was I bet your color wheel took dmg in the explosion.

Total bummer btw..

Why im glad I can stream my Xbox One to my pc, takes some abuse away from the lamp turning on/off for short gaming periods.. This is where most of the potential wear and tear on the lamp comes from.

I've got a budget setup and the image quality is fantastic at 126" screen size.

Its hard to take video/pictures of it and do it any justice.. just don't get a feel of how big and clear the screen is.

This was shot from and angle at about 6-7ft away so it would fit on my phones screen.

I've spent a ton of time fine tuning my projector to get it where I wanted it. I have the entire room blacked out so I've been running smartEco mode since I got it, setup the lamp timer and everything.

But its covered under a 4yr IPR so I am not worried.

Just had to use my Samsung 28" 4K display to watch TV instead of the 200" screen I am used to last night....

Yeah the bulb burst.

Just watch for glass on the floor...
Vacuum carefully if the bulb is broken.

No glass came flying out anywhere, so its all good. My concern is what does the inside look like? But its at the store now, should have a new one by Wednesday or Thursday.

Got my projector back today. Was told it was either dust build up or a critter got inside. I find both explanations hard to believe. I usually clean my home theatre every weekend so dust is never an issue. Critter though?... That's a long stretch.

But spent about an hour once I got it home, increased the screen size a little smaller from 200" to 240".

Been playing movies on it since about 2:00pm, haven't experienced any issues thus far.

what are you projecting on again?

Gotcha.. Uneven walls is not ideal.

Luckily I built my walls in the basement, nice and flat :)
