Awful car trends that arent going away....

Thanks for the explanation - iirc it was Elysian who talked about removing the tube from his Miata that piped in sound? He’ll correct me if that’s not accurate, but me…I just like the sound where it belongs > outside the vehicle, and a nice, quite ride inside. Craziness lol.

Yeah I plugged that tube up with a rubber stopper. It didn't do a ton, but I don't need extra noise in an already noisy car

Yeah I think I would want to do the same lol.

It's crazy to me because there are people on Miata forums/groups who actually defend the stupid sound tube, saying Mazda designed it for a reason, even though it adds a little bit of weight to the car, so it should stay. People are so odd.

Yessir lol. I’ve seen brand loyalty go to ridiculous levels.

My opinion only, but if it serves no function that I like, and it isn’t required for the vehicles safety and functionality, then it needs to go, if able.

I love the purr of a well tuned engine when it’s coming from the exhaust tips. Love that quieter cabin too.

I coded out the speaker sound in my car as well. BMW calls it active sign design...I'll pass.

On the trends front, the direction that manufacturers are taking by throwing everything on the screen and no actual dials/buttons like a tesla. Makes a car sterile.. Teslas(and similar em,pty cars) have no soul because of no sound and basically an empty car.

I never got around to buying Bimmercode or an adapter, but this is something I wanted to do on my Supra when I had it. It is the stupidest thing and they should let you disable from the iDrive menus.

I already commented on displays/lack of buttons, and obviously there is some inherent bias since I own a Tesla now, but I actually really value the simplicity and minimalism.

Yeah Bimmercode is awesome. Change a bunch of little nagging things with the car too that should be there on purchase. I dont use iDrive that much anyway, 99% of my time in the car Apple CarPlay is active and I dont even see iDrive unless I need to specifically check something. And my iDrive version is way worse(older) than what you were using in the Supra.

On the Tesla front(not just tesla though, more electric vehicles) I really like minimalism and simplicity but in those cars it doesnt feel right. Ive ridden in my friends Model 3 multiple times and every time I get in I want to like how it is, but once the novelty of a huge screen wears off its just dead and sterile to me. I do like the glass roof though.

I had no idea people still did stereo upgrades.

Next thing you'll tell me my 6 disc CD changer in the trunk is no longer cool.

yes we do :p

i know a lot of you from rust and poor maintenance have to replace your cars and trucks every 2 or 3 years or so :p

but it is nice having wireless carplay in my 2004 escalade with 125k+ miles and zero rust
and since the new escalades look like sh*t with the 7 foot tall follow me tail lights :bleh:

then there are work trucks like my 2016 Nissan Frontier S don't often come with a good head unit or speakers
