I recently was given an older computer:

PIII 500 - 128 RAM - 20 GB HD - Intel SE440BX 2 Mobo - SB Live! - Creative CD-RW Drive 4x2x24 - ATI Rage 2X AGP 16MB All-In-Wonder

I know this thing is old and I was really hoping to have a little media center PC setup in my living room. Well I got the computer wiped it and installed Windows XP with a few other programs...

McAfee Anti-Virus
Powerarchiver
Power DVD

I have tried reading through the forum for the answer to my question but I couldnt seem to be finding the answer I needed. Maybe I just didn't look for the right thing, but anyways decided to post a question.

How can I get the TV out to work under Windows XP? I have the latest drivers from ATI for the card and I have had no luck. Is there a way to force it to work? Everytime I go into the control panel it says a TV is no connected, even though it is, on both sides. The only thing about this card though is I do not have the original video out cables that came with this card. The previous owner didn't know where they were, so I used a S-Video to RCA adapter from my ATI 9600XT but that didn't work. It is a 7 pin S-Video connection and my adapter from my 9600XT was also 7 pin so I figure it should have worked? Is there any way to get this thing to work or am I screwed without the original adapter?

I also looked up on ATI online store and I can buy an all-in-wonder adapter for like 20 bucks but I was really hoping to just get this card working. I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

Reinstall your drivers with all the cables connected.
Ensure that your desktop resolution is 1024*768 or less.
Try enabling TV out now.

It was a no go. I am starting to think the card my be a dud and won't be working anytime soon. I even tried installing Windows 98 SE and the TV out still did not work. Oh well, thanks for the help Big Z.

The issue could be related to the cable. The S-video feed comes off of a proprietary branched cable which came with the card. Ask your friend to see if he/she can look for it, cause otherwise you may not be able to get it to work. Perhaps ATI will send you a new one for cheap.

Good luck.

i thought u needed the purple dongle for video in?

a normal svideo cable should work ok. :o
