Assassin's Creed Odyssey

i felt that way after black flag. Origins is epic! have u even tried it
I haven't, however the problem for me isn't really the locale or stories, it's the fact that the game play hasn't really changed over the years other than a few additions here and there.

I checked Origins from Youtube clips and it's essentially still the same.

origins is the biggest departure for the main series, so if you want something more different than that you are probably never going to get it.

Why in the world would they change the gameplay?

The games are fun and they sell really well. Gameplay change isn't what's needed here. It's fine, so they shouldn't break it.

Well if that's the meter then I guess I can understand why EA churns the same **** out every year and Activision too.

Why innovate properly when you can just rehash the same game in a different locale and the money pours in.

Targets for games:
* Sold well
* Liked by gamers

The Assassin's Creed series usually meets both targets. That is the meter, especially for big companies where the investment (not only in time, but also in manpower, effort, marketing) is large and investors want a return on investment.

With Humble Bundle, GOG and Steam all selling plenty of indie games, there's no shortage of innovation available. Expecting drastic innovation in long-standing AAA series is naive at best.

I thoroughly enjoyed Black Flag.

I thoroughly hated Unity and Syndicate

I thoroughly enjoyed Origins

All despite the gameplay being pretty much the same. I wouldn't have them change it any other way, otherwise it wouldn't be an assassins' creed game.

What does matter is more than just the location. It's the overall mechanics. They can either improve on something good (like Black Flag did compared to previous games), or take a few steps back (like I think they did with Unity and Syndicate).

Origins improves upon the gameplay much like Black Flag did to previous games. I would hope they keep the mechanics the same for Odyssey, otherwise any other changes and it would be a step back like Unity after Black Flag.

As long as it stays fun, the story is enjoyable, the graphics are good, and it plays well?

Well, yeah. What the hell else are you looking for in a game? Until there are signs that the majority of people are actually getting bored of the working formula, it makes no sense to change it.

People these days are far too obsessed with everything being bigger, better, crazier, flashier. It's just not necessary.

Odyssey, interesting. I wonder if this will have Odysseus? 'Could easily have Achilles too then. Also, if they set it later, they could also include the battle at Troy.

You do realize none of that is real? It was essentially a novel by Homer. It involved Greek Gods and monsters and there is no story with one without the other.

It would be like somebody making a historic game thousands of years from now that focuses on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in NYC.

Besides, as I mentioned before, Origins is supposed to be the Origins story. It doesn't make sense to go back further, let alone a 1000+ years, when the whole Assassin/Templar story arc began in Origins, unless they are doing something new altogether. But my bet is that Bayek (or Aya) will return for the Greece setting. If Aya it might be a direct prequel, or if Bayek a direct sequel (or some combination of both). The reason I say this is likely is because the developers stated Greece was cut from the main game. Also Bayek has proven to be one of the best main characters of all the AC games, right up there witih Ezio and Altaire, if not greater. It would be a shame if they just tossed him aside.

We'll know for sure in a few days though.

.

WHAT??? Of course they are real! They made a movie about them years ago...

Though the Ilias and Odyssey and indeed mostly myth instead of fact, there is some truth to the core of it in that there was a city of Troy and several wars for it. Not that it would make sense to place Assassin's Creed around that era, of course. Greek history offers plenty of opportunity for an AssCreed without touching Homer's epics.

No doubt there is historic significance with the city of Troy. There will also be historical significance with the city of New York thousands of years of now. Hopefully when those future denizens stumble upon ancient records they will not think talking mutant turtles actually lived there or that it was destroyed by Roland Emerich's Godzilla. :lol:
