Are we in a new decade yet? How so?

I also remembered that people were celebrating the new millennium back then at the turn of the year 2000.

But how can that be? There was no year 0, it went from year 1 BCE to year 1 CE. If the year 10 marked as the 2nd decade of the calendar then there was no 1st decade since it only went from 1-9.

Same thing with the millennium count, if the year 1000 marked as the beginning of the 2nd millennium then the first millennium didn't exist since there was only 999 years.

Why I made this thread? Because I'm annoyed at the internet :bleh:

Don’t stress your brain. That’s what I told your Mum last night.

I thought your go to line was “Don’t worry, it won’t hurt that bad. Just a little prick.”

Did you have a year zero? Or did your parents declare you "1 year old" the day you were born?

I remember year zero

all the systems screwed up with divide by zero so we erased year 0

and it was years and years before good men's briefs and lets not talk about togas …. drafty and always catching you nuts on the hedges going out the back window

Also wtf is it with people fully forgetting how to use plural and possessive words. and not like teenagers but full grown adults. Like 5 years ago it got real bad and we’re only now not getting any better.

Or people on the social media writing the word "payed" instead of "paid".

It's pretty simple. Nobody would say that 2030 is part of the 20s unless they're a few clowns short of a circus.

You are right. Technically the decade should start in 2021. But honestly who cares it doesn't matter.

It matters to me precisely because it is not correct. Just as Napoleonic stated, the Common Era (CE) began with the year 1, so the years 1–10 CE were the first decade, the years 11–20 CE were the second decade, and so on. Thus, 2020 is the last year of the 202th decade, and 2021 will be the first year of the 203th decade. People may protest since they want the decade to start with a nice round number, but that is simply not how our calendar system works.

Everything you say is correct, not arguing that. But my point was why does it actually matter? What does it really negatively affect by people not accurately understanding it? Nothing of any real importance that I can see.
