Any better password manager than LastPass?

LastPass user here. I've heard good things about 1Password too. I'd avoid Kee Pass - don't like the 3rd party plug-in bit ... seems kinda risky.
 
I've used Roboform for years. Gotta pay if you want to store more than 10 keys, but it's a great browser add-in. Works for IE, FF, and Chrome. Dunno about Opera.
 
What's the best benefit from using a manager other than not having to remember or type in a PW every time?

"Best" probably varies from user to user.

For me, the best is ensuring that every password is strong and unique. If a site is compromised, the is no impending domino effect due to having shared passwords or password systems.
 
You are better off tying 2fa like ubikey to something like lastpass or 1password

2fa - is the only way to keep an account any measureable means of safe assuming a ste doesnt have some silly 2fa bypass (happens occasionaly).

At this point I use lastpass with a yubikey. Though you lose or damage it goos luck.

Makes perfect sense, thanks. I should look into using lastpass or alternative again, safeguard against my own ....lazyness...

ste = site? 2fa = 2 step authentication?
 
yes my apologies.

ste was a typo meant site and 2fa does indeed two factor authentication. we are getting to the point where we need multifactor authentication in the realm of 3 factors

Ok thanks Gandalf. I need to read up more on different features and quality among the choices.

Is there a reliable site that reviews password managers? I can easily find reviews of course, I just don't know which sites are considered accurate and up front.

No question is dumb (at least that's what I try to tell myself during one of my frequent forehead smacking rituals).

2fa is excellent, and should be enabled whenever possible. You can enable it on gmail too, btw, and most of other email services ... recommended.
 
Yes, "better" is pretty subjective.

I just need help keeping up with all my passwords in a place other than in Notepad.
 
Only thing I ever used was a password fault that would return a value for everything you entered as the masterpassword. In other words all keys and passwords were hashed using your masterpassword but using a wrong password didn't give you an error, it would just return a faulty password. Never seen anything like it since though...
 
Another reason to appreciate Lastpass (and maybe its competitors): last night my wife was accessing her university stuffs and, for some reason, her Lastpass data (user/pass) was had been deleted. No problem - went into Lastpass tools, selected show deleted items, and undelete. Done.

You could argue that not having a pwd manager would mean that the info is in your brain, rather than locked up in some app. Well, that's the problem - if its in your brain, it probably means you either have a password system or shared passwords. That makes you vulnerable.
 
I had a Lastpass account a couple of years ago and stopped using it. No solid reason really other than getting annoyed by the constant prompts. I probably didn't have it configured correctly though.

I'll have to do some digging and see if I can find my old user name and.......password....:bleh:
