Amazon's FireTV looks pretty good

I don't have any use for any of these new webtv boxes, but I can see how this might be miles ahead of the competition (minus the lack of HBO Go which I hope is temporary)

I can see the initial appeal here, but in all honesty most of android based gaming sucks. I really wish they'd stop trying to push the platform with crappy $1 games that don't translate well to a controller. Now I could see how this would be an awesome setup as a console emulator. Running NES, Gensis, SNES, N64, and Playstation games on this thing would be awesome!

this isn't supposed to be a gaming console; its supposed to be a simple multimedia PC that can play games.

Oh how far we have come since the WDTV. Seem's like a really nice little device imho :)

If I didn't have a PS3 that meets all my streaming needs, I'd pick one up. Nice little box.

Reviewers are also saying the voice search work really well - better than expected and better than shouting across the living room - though it still can struggle with "foreign" sounding names.

Ok but does it fare well when you have a few people talking at once?

Kinect 2 really sucks at listening when multiple people are talking to each other in its space.

The FireTV microphone is in the remote, so that should help filter out ambient noise.

thats good, but it would be awesome if you could just speak out commands that are accurately understood despite the ambient noise, without being tethered to the remote...

Well it looks like the voice search is crippled, it only brings back results from amazon services, so searching for something like 'Orange is the new black' would return nothing, even if Netflix was installed.

The good news is that the voice search was the only thing keeping me on the fence about whether to buy one now, or wait till its rooted and rom flash-able. I believe this is the first serious arm powered android box available, as I have been waiting for something to replace my aging googletv, and I am not touching anything with a rockchip.

I'm so getting this. All I want is a device to stream Prime movies to my television; and it sounds like the voice control and the speed works great for just that.

I bought one. Should be here tomorrow. Really don't want another box to confuse the family with when it comes to switching the video and audio to use it though. But, it looks like a nice portable solution to having streaming video in whatever room in the house.

Let us know what you think of it

HBO Go is being discussed with the parent company.

Personally, I want HBO to be available as a standalone. I am not going to subscribe to it on my cable package because I don't think I should have to. But we shall see how it is implemented.

This is a compelling package overall.

It's speedy. The Netflix app is old and crappy (look like the previous version that was on my Tivo) and the Hulu app isn't great. The Amazon Prime streaming experience is very good though. I prefer to use the Netflix and Hulu apps on my Tivo.

My Roku 3 has plenty of power for my needs, but I'll probably pick one of these up to us on another TV in a guest bedroom. Another TV with Plex is always a major plus.
