Installation of AIW Radeon driver (3056 or 3063 - either does not matter) results in booting to a black screen and hangs every time. If I rename Viagart.vxd to Viagart.txt (effectively removing it) it will then boot up fine. TV,DVD,CD etc.. all work. The ATI technician said I need this Viagart.vxd. But it seems to work without it! Don't I need this? Reading about the "Gart" info on the Intel site makes me think (and this may be totally wrong) that there is some sort of dynamic graphincs processing during inital setup that detects Gart problems and readjusts to use the host processor to compensate - or something like that. Anyhow I don't care - I think I am supposed to have this Viagart installed and I'm trying to install it before I get too far into installing everything else on my computer. Any solutions out there????

ABIT KT7-RAID
900 MHZ AMD TBIRD
SBLIVE
Linksys ethernet
Zoom ISA Modem
Maxtor 15GB UDMA66 (drive C boot)
Maxtor 40 GB ATA100 Raid (two 40GB drives)
Latest BIOS & Drivers
Happens on Windows 98SE
Happens on Windows ME (although ME sure is more stable then 98 - AFTER a clean install, no restart problems with ME either)
Tried every version and combination of the 4in1 drivers (standard and turbo), even the seperate AGP 403d driver. AGP BIOS at 4x

Well, have you tried the NEWEST Via drivers? they are version 4.24 and that helped my with a Radeon 64MB VIVO. Maybe you want to try running agp at 1x or 2x and then running the VIA agp drivers at normal

Athlon 600 Mhz
FIC SD-11
256MB RAM
RADEON 64MB VIVO

You might try the 4.25a 4in1 drivers. I also have a KT7-Raid that dual boots Win98SE & W2K. The W2K drivers suck, but I have had no problems at all in Win98SE.

After 12 days the AIW Radeon has beaten me. I can not get it to run stable at all. Took it back this afternoon to CompUSA. Tried ever combination of drivers imaginable. Even tweaked the AGP drive values and I/O voltages which didn't stablelize either. Really disappointed. Reinstalled the Voodoo 3 3000 which installs with out a hitch. ATI needs to do more work on this board and/or drivers. ATI never did respond to my emails and I couldn't get through on the phone in the past 4 days. What more can I say.

Was this just an isolated incedent? I have a Tyan S1598C2 and i get the same thing. i get a "window write protection error" upon boot. And please dont tell me to get the updated Via drivers, if they are out there i have tried them. But now i was thinking about changing to a new motherboard (possibly even the KT7-RAID and chipset KT133) and im hoping i dont run into the same problem. Thnx
