Aftermath $12.95

"Aftermath will be the first big test of that philosophy. The game will ship over Steam this year, most likely in November, and will have an incredibly reasonable purchase price of $12.95. Valve hopes to analyze customer feedback (of which there is always plenty, they note) and incorporate that feedback into their design decisions in the next piece of episodic content, which will clearly come out much sooner than Another Half-Life Game would."

Whole article here

Not a bad price at all.

Looking forward to it!! I really feel like I'm getting my $$-worth for getting HL2 silver and I won't have a problem seeing what the next chapter is.

After reading through the article on Bit-tech I really like what they're doing with the product. More substantial than paying for moderate upgrades at full game prices like some other franchises offer.

I thought I read somewhere that it's about 1/3 the content of HL2.... for me that's gonna mean 5-6 hours of more HL2 goodness.

that's not really an expansion length, imho.

seems valve is content on screwing gamers with this whole 'episodic' delivery deal.

I dont think they are screwing anyone. 3+ hours(i think thats what i remember reading somewhere) of new gameplay doesnt seem like a ripoff to me, not at that price anyway. It sounds a lot like max payne 2, except not as expensive. I prefer this method over getting new games every 5 or so years.

Hate to nitpick but... For as little as twice the price, most expansions like either of the NwN addons (Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark) were easily several times more gameplay content. (and added replay value with the new classes, and items)

And for $10 a pop, they're selling additional game modules on their site. Considering these modules are 43 - 120mb in size compared to a full 650-700mb, they are utilizing 90% of the already provided game texture & objects material, they're still able to offer a considerable amount of gaming experiance with new voice dialogue, script and story content... More than a couple hours worth of gaming.

Even the Diablo2 expansion was an entire extra chapter to the game and added extra replays worth to the original game with the addition of 2 new character types, and each having their own various skill trees to specialize in.

For an expansion/addon, thats supposedly add only a couple hours worth of gameplay, shouldn't be more than $3 - $4 bux worth... IMHO they'd sell it more, and could keep on releasing these tidbit sized addons.

no way did you finish max payne 2 in 3 hours on your first go through. it was more like 8-10 hours on the lowside.

also it was a great game, sadly, i cannot say the same for hl-2.

Most expansions sell for between $25-$35 (not full $50 price), and what's more they are usually at least half to two-thirds as long as the original game. We'll see how long it is. Also, thus far, Valve's pricing has basically been a rip-off. They have no business charging $10+ for multiplayer mods, when most other developers include them for free as part of the original game.

The price doesn't seem bad, but I'm skeptical the "episodic" system is going to work. Would you rather have a $30 expansion that's 10 hours or a $10 expansion that's 3 and 1/2 hours? I know I'd rather have the former...

DoD will be the 3rd multiplayer mod they have released for source. How many free ones do you think they owe you? Fact is nobody updates games like valve does and i think they deserve money for their hard work.

I dont know why you have this attitude. If you dont want the game dont buy it. Im sorry you feel that new content is a waste of time. The people that have enjoyed the cs:source updates for the last year or so will not agree with you. What about the new content the original cs got for 4+ years? A waste of time because nobody played regular cs, right? Fact is Valve does more for their customers than anyone else. There is a reason why Valve games and its addons are so popular. They give and give and give and all most people can do is cry and cry...........

Question: If I select my location as in the USA instead of the UK will I still be able to download the game while dodging TAX (VAT)?

I played for more than 2 hours with Matto2 and Matto3 maps for Far Cry, which are free and made with professional quality.
Matto4 is in the works ;)

Yes it is. Compared to other expansions for FPSs? BF1942: Road to Rome didn't add THAT much to the game. Doom 3's expansion wasn't that big of an improvement either. The only real thing you can complain about having a short expansion would be an MMO or an offline RPG, a la Morrowind.

If you can get in over 2-3 hours for it for only $12 then I'm game.

That's not a bad deal at all

Preacher is just hell bent on bashing Valve for anything they do.

Updates of old games? What's so bad about that? If you want to complain about that, you could say every sequel to any FPS is just an update with maybe a new weapon and levels.
