JVC THB-5000 Home Theatre System

Thanks guys.

I just had a new house built, and I have a 25x20 great room with 19 foot ceilings, perfect for a big home theater...

I had them prewire the surround sound into the walls, and I have a 42" plasma mounted on the wall over the fireplace. For 5.1, I am using Logitech Z680 THX speakers, and I have to say, they sound phenominal. They rock the house, and the sound quality is superb.

Wow, with a room like that, prewired walls...you sound like you've got the funds and plans for some serious ht action and you chose logitech speakers?? Not trying to be rude, just puzzled.

Congrats on new house!

i have z680 but my room is not that big, how loud you got the volume, sub, center etc?

I have yet to put the volume over half power, it is thunderous.

Here are pics of the house(still setting up and furnishing, so pardon the mess)...

I have the plasma on the wall, DirecTV and DVD pumping into it via componant wiring run through conduit int he wall. In the bookcase on the right, underseath in the cabinet, are the componants and sub.

I also have a Soltek QBIC SFF rig(2.4Ghz, 512MB, 120MB HD, FX5200, wireless G) that is connected to the Plasma. That way I can pull up internet(Bellsouth Fiber DSL) on the TV, play music(via optical out) through the soundsystem and watch TV shows(I have over 400 TV shows downloaded) all accessed from the couch by an RF keyboard and mouse...

Seems to work well so far!

I was thinking on doing wall mounting with my speakers (z680 as well) but for some reason i feel it won´t sound loud enough.

Right now i have them near the TV with volume at 50% and they are ok, sometimes i feel they need more volume.

So, how they sound on your room, being so far away from where u are sitting?

maybe i did something wrong... the Sub is really powerfull, though.

Perhaps you have your source audio levels improperly set. My speakers are up high, pointing down and at the center of the room. It is very loud when you crank the volume, and having the sub inside the cabinet, makes the mouse shake. I cannot imagine a need for more volume, as it would start to get painful to listen to.

The way my house is designed, it is a lot of open space, so the sound travels throughout the house and sounds great...

the sub on the logitechs is too boomy and loud for a real HT setup.

Explain.

My dad has a nice Bose system, and the Logitechs sound way better.

For $350, I was not expecting to have a system comparable to a $3000 audio setup, but I am impressed nonetheless.

The sound is great, loud, seperation is awesome, highs are clear, and the bas rattles the windows... For three-fitty, what more can you ask for?

the sub is boomy, but if u set it at 15% volume it won´t be boomy anymore..

i have it at 25% cause i love lows but 20 or 15% should be the correct setting for the logitech.

what do you mean with source audio levels?
I don´t see many options on the control panel to switch.
thanks!

Well, that also depends on where the sub is placed, the accoustics of the room, etc... I do not consider it boomy other than when there is an explosions or something that is supposed to sound boomy. hehe

Well, the Z680's are pretty damned loud, unless the source itself is not very loud. Take one PC, it might have a string signal and be amazingly loud, and then another sound card's output is only half as strong...

I mean, this is in a large room with 2 story ceilings, and if it can fill the room up with sound to the point that is is becoming painful to listen to, I cannot imagine wy it wouldn't be loud enough for you...

Beautiful house, tv, kitchen, computer, ect Squire.

Thanks, this is my first house and I am pretty happy with it. Had it built this fall and just closed in early December.

Now I just have to furnish the damned thing... Lots of empty rooms at this point, but I have room to grow and could live here 20 years if I had to...

I just bought my first house too. Waiting to start moving in and paint, install hardwood, demonstrate the need for prime home theatre components to my wife (who would rather focus on stuff from the pottery barn etc).

So much to buy, so little money left.
I'm one of the many still struggling to determine what I need vs what I want with regards to the new big tv (plasma, lcd, dlp) and the items that go in line. For me aethetics don't really count, but my wife is already trying to lay down the law in terms of "i don't want to see wires/speakers everywhere" :)

...off to play the lottery....

I hear ya. The plasma offers a great picture, but not the best you can get. I got it because it gave a great picture and allowed me to put it on the wall. I had the builder run flexitube conduit through the wall, and he put a recessed box above the mantle with a wall outlet and stuff, plus studs for me to bolt the wall mount to. WHat is great, is that if I want to upgrade to a 50' HD plasma or LCD in the future, I can just pull the old plasma down and slap up the new one, using the existing wiring and mounts, in about 10 minutes.

But I have no wires showing, no cables, and everything looks and sounds great, and frankly, was not all that expensive in the end.

CompUSA had a two day sale onthe plasma last year, which I picked up for 2 grand. Throw in a $200 walll mount, $350 speakers and a $100 progressive scan DVD player, and you have a pretty robust HT system...

Hey SquireSCA, DVD shines on that plasma, eh? Good job with the mounts and wires. Next house I get, I'll be doing same thing. Back when I bought this one I could have done it, but at the time I had a sony trinitron and basic stereo, it didn't dawn on me to have the builder run wires.

Really a nice touch. I bet when you have company they are quite impressed.

What kind of wireless keyboard do you use? I have a gyration ultra keyboard and mouse and like it.

btw, again I didn't mean to sound rude about my comment on the logitechs. But imho, a room that size, you need at least 500 bucks worth of subwoofer alone to get decent ht sound. I wouldn't want one of those bose lifestyle systems in there either.

The cool thing is you have the house with the room, you can always upgrade to some real oomph when you get that 50 inch plasma you spoke of ;)
