Advice for HTIB or separate components

I'm looking at getting this HTIB: Onkyo HT-S9400THX

For the price though, I've read you can probably get a better set up if you buy the receiver and speakers separately. A few posts on the AVS forums say if you can find it for 650 it would be a good deal.

Problem is that I'm a complete HT newb. I really dont know what to look for which is why I just keep looking at HTIB's.

Any advice on a good receiver and speakers? I dont really need 7.1. 5.1 would be enough. $1000 limit is doable but any recommendations for $600 or less would be nice.

Also, what about these less expensive HTIBs?

Always go separate, its easy enough once you get some direction.

Fantastic budget receiver: http://www.frys.com/product/6271870?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
With that receiver, you have $800 to invest in where it counts, the speakers. I say invest instead of spend, because here you want to invest what you can for something that will last you a very long time, not something like a computer upgrade. Though even on a budget you can find some awesome values.

-BIC
F12 sub ~$200
DV64 fronts ~$150ea

-Polk
PS505 ~$200
Monitor 70 fronts ~$170ea

etc etc, many members can give you their preferences, and you will end up with a much much better system than almost any HTIBs.

that is every feature anyone really needs (don't look at my threads choices :bleh:), although I would consider an extended warranty with it.

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately my local Fry's doesnt have that receiver. Theres a Sony and Yamaha receiver for about $200 I might decide on. I dont need any network connectivity on the receiver when my TV and consoles all have those capabilities already.

I'll see if any of the local electronic stores have those speakers to see if I can test them out. Those Polk speakers look nice though.
